One of my favourite lighthouses in the uk. I never had the opportunity to see inside very intresting. Thank you for uploading this and for adding the fog horn it wouldn't be portland bill without it

Peter I've had the pleasure of actually seeing the inside of this Portland Bill as well about 7 or 8 years ago whilst on holiday in the region. I absolutely loved getting up close and seeing everything, I remember the climb up to the optic room as well which was interesting with two way traffic on those stairs ! If I recall the lens was on and rotating when I was up in there, the lamp wasn't lit though obviously as it was daytime. I presume it was rotating as sort of a demonstration to us visitors that was there that day. I will have to see if I can find pictures and video of my visit at some point now !! Great video as always and looking forward to more in the future.

Hi Shaun, thanks for that.I'm assuming it was the same lens when you visited, quite often, when they automate, they keep the lens turning during daylight so that the sun can't melt or start fires by being reversed magnified by the lens. Stay safe.

@@PeterHalil Yes the lens was exactly the same when I was there, I was impressed at the scale of it when I was in the lens room, it was/is much bigger than I expected. To see it all effortlessly turning was excellent and it now makes sense why it was turning when you mention the reasons re possible fire etc. due to magnifying the sunlight. I'd love to go back there again or indeed visit another lighthouse at some point in the future.

Climbed this bad boy yesterday. Had a tour to the top. The old lens had been replaced with l.e.d and rests at the bottom. Impressive to see up close and the view is excellent once at the top.

Completely failed to realise just how low I should have turned the volume down despite the warning. Certainly woke me up! As and when things settle down in 2020 I hope to visit a few lighthouses. Not sure if there's a list of which ones will open but I fully intend to find them! I imagine they'll be bookings only which would make it a bit quieter... unless they pull the same trick you just did!

Ha Ha, there maybe more of those tricks in future, that noise would be great on a mobile ringtone!, stay safe

Yes seen that one a good few times, have you got anything on Berry Head or Start Point I could see those two when I was at sea the other night although I don't like the new LED light at Berry Head it seems to have lost something
