This was filmed in the early 1990's and includes tours inside 3 empty Lighthouses. There is Llanddwyn Island, Holyhead Breakwater and finally, Salt Island Lighthouse. They are all in an abandoned state in great need of some money and TLC. Only Holyhead Breakwater was manned by Trinity House Keepers way back before I joined in 1974, it is mentioned a couple of times by ex Keepers in my interview video's. None of these Lighthouses are now owned by Trinity House or were when filmed.

Thanks for this film used to live in Holyhead as a boy, and the Breakwater was my second home, fishing and watching the train dump the protection over the North side of he wall. Thanks for this.

Thank you for showing us the inside of the lighthouse at the end of Anglesey breakwater. Lovely to see that the original bunks are still there.
@PeterHalil
@PeterHalil Жыл бұрын
Yes, I was glad that the original bunks were still there, just sad at the neglect of the place. Maybe, the innards, clockwork, bunk etc should be taken out and placed in the Holyhead Maritime Museum, before they all rust or rot away?

@@PeterHalil I totally agree. It's really rare to see a clockwork mechanism and all of it needs to be recovered, restored and loved.

Great to see this. I visited Anglesey in late Feb this year and went to see South Stack lighthouse, only to discover it was closed ! I still walked down the four hundred steps just in case they’d left the gate open - no such luck. The walk back up nearly killed me. But I carried on to the breakwater and walked the mile and three quarter to the lighthouse. It was a glorious day and I stayed nearly two hours there mostly had the place to myself. Next day visited Trwyn Du lighthouse at Puffin Island. Took some great photos, and this video brought back all the memories. Look forward to going back. Thanks for posting this video, it’s very special watching your collection of our British coastal heritage. Stay safe.

It's a crying shame to see the state of that lens mechanism. So sad. I thought Dover breakwater was large, but this one definitely takes the cake. Many thanks for another informative release, Peter. Stay safe.

Cheers SarkyBugger, I agree, it was quite sad to crunch my footprints around what would have been proud lighthouses when still manned. Stay safe.

Hello Peter. Thanks for posting this lovely little bit of nostalgia. I enjoyed the film and hadn't realised the actual length of the breakwater. As your photo showed towards the start of the Holyhead lighthouse section - a fine view of it is enjoyed on the walk up the Mountain. All the best, Jack.

Ahoy Peter, I spent last weekend watching a series on PBS TV Miami Fl, on the Lighthouses of Ireland. aptonline.org/catalog/GREAT-LIGHTHOUSES-OF-IRELAND greatlighthousesofireland.tv/ Great series goes thru history, interviews with former Keepers. Of course thought of your quite prolific uploads (nothing compares mate) but the Houses of Ireland are interesting nonetheless. They showed The Fastnet and Balleycotton, Skelligs and Barrels lightship, others too. The series goes into WW2 history and Light Histories, real weel done proper. I was wondering if you saw it too?
