Well if you had to be stuck in a lighthouse for a period of duty - this is one of the nicest & safest ones I think - needs a few homely touches, like rugs, but that would be easy to fix - I could happily live there for a while - thank you for this interesting video !

Excellent video as always Peter thankyou from New Zealand
@PeterHalil4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Mate, thanks for that, New Zealand seems to be riding this pandemic storm better than the UK, but then the UK always manages to tackle problems with a "Dads Army" approach.Take care.

@@PeterHalil Were have been very fortunate with good planning and excellent leadership, as well as a population of only 5 million who nearly all stuck to the lock down and social distancing rules. As a result New Zealand is COVID free but you arrive here in a plane you will get 14 government supervised quarantine, with mandatory testing twice before being let loose in the country. So still pretty strict if your coming from abroad even as NZ Citizen.

Thank you, Mr.Halil for another ''trip through time''. How nice things were back then. Some things must not be replaced by new technologies. I've just wondered, perhaps do you have some videos related to maritime communication? I saw in your other videos a Radio beacon transmitter. Cheers!
@PeterHalil4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mr Henry, no, all my maritime communication stuff would just be coincidental in passing on my walk through's, sorry.

@@PeterHalil I would like to invite you Mr.Halil to be part of the Maritime Radio Group on Facebook. There is a lot of photographic material and some videos of coastal and offshore stations around the globe. I hope to find you there! VY 73

Great video, love the info on the wise donkey and pony and their antics. Being island light shame did not house the engines separately from the light/crew quarters. Even with doors closed bet that 24/7 sound reverberated through the structure.
@PeterHalil4 жыл бұрын
Yes, It was a bit noisy! I'm not sure if the engines were ever out in another building, perhaps a Keeper that served there might enlighten us all? cheers.

Another fine video. It would be great to experience the sound of one of these stations as it was in the days of clockwork and paraffin lights.
@PeterHalil4 жыл бұрын
Cheers, I've done a video of Sark where I set the clockwork running for a spell, and I videoed Elbow reef in the Bahamas with their paraffin/kerosene light being lit, so maybe one day I can link the two audios to see what it comes out like?

Thank you Peter another nice video, was there a structure on the island before the light house , it looks as if the rocks had doors? sorry if its a stupid question. best wishes

There was a structure/shed? but no idea what it was used for. Hopefully some Keeper that served there may see this and get back to us? cheers

Home to masses of seabirds today and sadly no Horn anymore and a bluish white LED light, I saw a nature program on the island. I would rather take the boat, you will never get me in a helicopter unless I am unconscious. So rather you than me on that Helideck, it looks disconcerting. Sad about the "Candy Striped" livery on the Smalls, it was rather handsome with it.
@PeterHalil4 жыл бұрын
Cheers for that Jane. I remember one of my 1st helicopter rides from St. Anns Lighthouse, the pilot was ex military, army, I think? He took off , then dropped us straight off the edge of the cliff towards the sea, then pulled up to race what felt close to the sea towards our destination. Needless to say, I very nearly had to remove my finger nails from my seat cushion, and the pilot was just grinning! I feel your pain.Take care.

Do you think this automation thing is a bit of a shame, I don't want to stay in and monitor the world from computer screens
@PeterHalil4 жыл бұрын
Yes, sometimes progress sucks a bit. I was posted to Holyhead for several years in a Lighthouse monitoring station. Our highlights were to visit these automatic Lights on a regular basis and play at being Lighthouse Keepers again. Then my last 2 years I was posted to Trevose and finally, the Lizard Lighthouses to end my career in a "proper" job! cheers
