Do you know how ballsy it is to show EVERY shot AS they're being taken on screen? That's when you KNOW your stuff man... there's SO many photos that go to the scrap pile almost as soon as you shoot them, but this man's cranking out banger after banger and they look AWESOME. Outstanding work folks, thanks for the wisdom!

Grateful for 2 things: 1) more subdued background music makes it easier to pay attention to what you have to say, and 2) how you model to us how to be a solo shooter setting up gear w/o an assistant. Would welcome more content helping us solo photogs along those lines.

PS recently saw a tip that a white shoot-through umbrella can be used in a partly-open position to reduce the spread of light. Any thoughts?

I love this video, even as an amateur learning portrait photography it makes it easy to see where I could apply this with basic gear. Even if you don't have a nicer flash, you can make this work with a single speedlight and a reflector.

Umbrellas are great light modifiers and should never be underestimated .cheap easy to transport and are great to use for large groups to, only drawback is sometimes is that the light goes everywhere, but they can give such soft and appealing light for portraits. Thank you Pye. don't often see videos on the use of these mods any more.

Very imformative. Never seen an umbrella inverted like that. Different, some say umbrella some say light box. It gets confusing. What do you think of these tiny battery lights 2inces square as fill light used on videos. Only about 5 watts. Would they work when out and about or is that a gimick.

You'll need to light the background as well. For halo one light will do. But for evenly lit background better to go for 2 lights. 😊

Thanks for the helpful video. I have a big white umbrella which is used for sheltering from the rain. Is it possible to use something like that for a photoshoot since it would mean I wouldn't have to go and specifically purchase a white photographer's umbrella? But how would I attach that to a flash light stand or near one since it has a handle on the end and would never fit through a light stand hole? Is there anything different about a photographer's umbrella compared to a rain umbrella other than not having a handle?
@BornUncreative4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as long as it's white and semi-transparent it would work. Might not be ideal. You'll have to figure out how to get it threaded through the flash bracket tho.

Pye had the power on his lights turned so far down, you would easily be able to match that with your speedlights. And after all, you could answer your own question by trying....just experiment with different settings, positions of lights etc.
