Peter: it’s just a shot over the mountains don’t go too crazy with the score Howard: proceeds to make the greatest score ever in movie history

I gotta imagine that composers all dream of the chance to go absolutely wild like Shore did throughout these movies. Just absolutely cut loose.

it's not _just_ a shot over the mountains, the cinematography for this scene is just as good as the score, even if you don't know what you're looking for.

The best part of this is still the shot of the guy waving his little torch after the beacon of Nardol is lit. Like his hand held torch is going to signal all the way to Erelas lol

A fact: When the beacons are lit, the common people of Gondor and Rohan are going to be worried as heck. But these men manning the beacons would probably be very happy to finally do what they've been waiting to do for since ages.

The fact that this did bot happened like this in the books amazes me. In the books Gondor already lit the beacons before Gandalf arrives. But the way PJ converted this into an epic scene like that is amazing.

there's dialog sounds, so I'm confused how they did this. Did they remove the music track from the film so that only the dialog sounds played (so they could orchestrate over that)?

My guess is that its not taken as a penalposition but rather a honorary position. Futhermore its probably organised in a shiftsystem with several guards that are also there to guard the surroundings. Basically if you screw up the realm of the free folk is screwed, so I doubt they send known screw ups to such positions.
