Lightning Returns - Aeronite (Easy difficulty, First Run, No EP Recovery)

This is a video showing how to kill Aeronite with minimum effort and bare essential preparation. The only thing that will take a few minutes in this preparation is the farming of the ability Heavy Slash Lv 3, which won't take long anyway (Anubys enemies drop this ability).
The Schemata I used are:
1. Garb: Quiet Guardian (buy from Outfitters in The Slaughterhouse area in Yusnaan).
Weapon: DO NOT use the Gagnrad as I did in the video. As an user pointed out in the comments, this will go against your interests because of the malus on Stagger Power of this weapon. Sorry about this!
Shield: Ul'dahn Crest (doesn't really matter; it's from the Canvas of Prayer quest "Roadworks I").
Accessories: Preta Hood (dropped by boss of The Dead Dunes); Runic Ring (treasure in Luxerion).
Abilities: Aerora, Deshell, Deprotect.
2. Garb: Soldier of Peace (complete quest "The Hunter's Challenge" in Jagd Village (Wildlands)).
Weapon: Demon Knife (buy for 220,000 Gil from Forge in Yusnaan).
Shield: Gridanian Sigil (doesn't really matter; this one is from Canvas of Prayers quest Roadworks II).
Accessories: Fighter's Emblem; Dawn Gauntlets.
Abilities: Thundara, Mediguard, Heav Slash Lv 3 (becomes Artemis's Arrows in battle).
Heavy Slash Lv 3 is dropped by Anubys enemies starting from Day 10. This is the only "leveled" ability I use in this video. For max effect, synthesize with each other Heavy Slash Lv 3 abilities until you get a STR multiplier of 6.20x.
3. Garb: Black Mage (from treasures of The Ark).
Weapon: Chaos's Revenge (dropped by boss of The Wildlands).
Shield: Double Cross (doesn't matter, it's actually a default shield lol).
Accessories: Silk Scarf (treasure in The Dead Dunes); White Strap (treasure in the Temple Ruins of The Dead Dunes).
Abilities: Fira, Heavy Guard or Mediguard.
Short strategy: use the "magical immunity schemata" (# 1) whenever he attacks you. Try to keep some distance away from him to avoid the "claw" attack and the "Roar" attack (both deal physical damage, so magic immunity won't help). The attack Hellflare and the first part of the attack "Megaton Break" deal massive physical damage: either Heavy-Guard against them, or use Overclock to Stagger-interrupt him before he can launch them (do so only if he's already close to Staggering), or just let him kill you and use a Phoenix Down to revive.
After the fourth Stagger you will deal damage spamming Artemis's Arrows while he has Deprotect and while you have Bravery. On Easy you won't even need to use EP-recovering items, since 5-6 Overclocks will be more than enough to finish him off.

I had trouble with timing his magic attack, and still attacking him. So what I did was cast Deshell on him, then switch to the Black Mage and overclocked him. After it ran out, I'd go back to Quiet Guardian and attack it with that and put Deshell on him again if needed until I ran out of ATB, then back to Black Mage and overclock again. Doing that worked for me, finally staggered him the final time and unleashed Hell on him. I had to use an Ether before the final stagger, and then I used a Turbo Ether when he was staggered for the final time. So doing it that way will of course require some EP recovery if you can't manage the timing for guarding and attacking like me.

Just remember the first garb this guy is using is the most important, also use black mage garb for quick stagger before the dragon flies away.

I think i can beat him in Normal Mode. And besides why do you need guard on quiet guardian? He blocks all attacks anyway but not magnet.

I tried this. Honest to god, man. I followed your outlet to the letter, crossed the t's and dotted the i's; and I just couldn't beat it. I must've tried it at least thirty times, in one sitting. (Which was not a good idea, got me fairly irritated) Every single time, I got it near death maybe three-four times out of those thirty (because I suck at FF games, don't judge), I'd say 1/3 of it's health left on the final stagger; and I have no EP left. I started with 8, used all my potions and phoenix downs. Even had to use Arise twice because it spams Hellfire twice before it goes down. It just flies away. I've been blazing through this game, up until this bastard, and he demoralized the hell out of me. Regardless, I've been trying other methods to beat this guy, looking on youtube and forums; and this video is the only one that got me even close. In the beginning, I couldn't even get the first stagger before it got fed up with me. Good method man, got me pretty damn even with the bastard; I'll probably just have to get it on a new game+, because I'm terrible.

I used the "magical immunity schemata" and it worked.. well I still got damage like 300 as max.. but I beat him in first try in your way ;).. but I mained used Fira lvl 4 and Firaga lvl 2.. I say Fira lvl 4 did heck alot of stagger damage.. (dont know if it was the Chaos sword that granted it?) But now I have my first platinum in FF13 serie.. maybe try to complete one day all FF13 with platinum..

spamming with magic, you need at least 2 phoenix down, 2 hero potions, 2 remedies, and some ethers, the quiet guardian outfit 100% necessary, i'll try your strategy

I am definitely going to try this strategy! I've been breezing through on Easy with brute force alone, compensating for lack of de-buffering through abuse of overclocks and heavy reliance on the overpowered schema setup of the SOLDIER 1st Class, Siegfried, and Sphere Hunter garbs (and the Flesh Render from the Last Reaver). Then I hit Aeronite and burned through all 8 of my overclocks and my entire recovery items inventory without even bringing his health down to a quarter. I do have a question though - would it be possible to substitute the Black Mage for the Cyber Jumpsuit Physical Invisibility build? I've seem some JP videos that seem to use that setup instead along with the Soldier of Peace and Quiet Guardian.

I tried that myself, but I found it better to have a more offensive setup. You don't need physical defense very much if you play right, especially on Easy, and having better Staggering potential helps.

Although I did burn through a few more Ethers and Phoenix Downs because I was still learning the attack pattern and running out of Heavy Guard by the time he used Roar, but it worked! Also, I was on Day 8 so I ended up using Destroyer (from the Last Cyclops) on the Soldier of Peace build. Thanks for the video and advice!

hmm, why did you sue Gagnrad on your silent guardian? i mean i used almost the same setup only different weapons but thats depending on your way to go but the guardian doesnt need the stats from the weapon anyway and the +25% atb speed wont counter the - 90% stagger - am I mising something here?

I'm on my first run on Normal and i can't stagger him in the first 3 Minutes with this Strategy. I have done every Side Quest and almost all of the Canvas of Prayers Quest's. I tried this fight now for 4 Hours. Should i wait for my next Run and beat him with upgraded Equipment!?

That's definitely going to make things easier, but it's not necessary. If you're having problems with the first Stagger, use a few more Overclocks. From the second Stagger onwards it goes much smoother, you'll just have to use a couple of Ethers for more Overclocking.

First time I got crushed and thougt this'd be nigh impossible.. 3rd try with actual preparation 5stars and only 2 ethers and a hero potion used .. 190-200 atb on each garb shitton of health & mediguard on the debuffing garb 25k? just spamming thunder till the 4th stagger and then deprot rushing him with heavy slash .. almost too easy

Amazing U killed him on the first day the game is out. I had the Japanese since 2 months or more and I couldn't beat him good job. I had most my abilities maxed out & My sword is maxed out in strength & magic & great ATB & FAST but still couldn't beat him. I was trying too kill him on hard he has 37 million HP without Chaos cloud and with it 57 million. Anyways very impressive. The key is this magical immunity schemata I had it but didn't use it because i don't understand any Japanese. This dragon is very hard And there is another hard one but I can't seem too find him.

Franklin Clinton The passive defense combines with Petra Hood and Runic Ring to give you magic immunity. Swap out the hood and ring for Ghost Hood and Guard Glove for physical immunity. The Eaters can eat shit basically.

Is there a reason to use a demon knife over the morgenstern (1300 strength to demon knife's 1050, and no atb loss). Or is it just preference/ available Gil?

It's because of the cost. As explained in the text guide, Morgenstern would be a better choice. Not *that* much better as to determine win or loss, but better nonetheless. Without grinding at that point of the game the average player doesn't have enough money for Morgenstern, so I went with the Demon Knife which should be affordable to the majority of players at that point. However, if you can afford it, by all means go with Morgenstern.

35823582 It's been awhile since I played, but if I remember correctly, the battle is timed. According to a guide I looked up: "There is an invisible time-limit to defeating Aeronite. If you don't achieve Knockout on him quickly enough, he'll fly away and escape from the battle." It just took me a few tries to get the hang of the battle, switching schemata and keeping the pressure on him to get it in time.

Most likely. Just stagger him quickly and kill him as quickly as you can. Use one of the three schemata in this video to avoid taking much damage.. I think it's the Guardian one.. so you can spend most of your time attacking instead of healing. Once you get the hang of that, it shouldn't be too hard. I got stomped the first time until I figured that little tidbit out.

How the hell are you getting 150000-250000 damage points on the final stagger if it's your first playthrough? I've done over 60 side quests, and another 70 prayer of canvas quests, and I'm barely getting 100000 damage points with Artimus Arrows (I've used exactly the same garb and weapons you've used here). I'm sick of these LR "guides" on KZbin: instead of helping anyone, they're always more of a "look what I can do" cock spectacle. Absolutely fucking useless for the casual player. I was chopping away at it with Artimus Arrows, and the damn thing fucking flew away ("Fed up"). You should make a note that if you're not getting 150000-250000 DP with AA, you should have a shitload of EP available, or else the damn thing is gonna fly away. 30 minutes of my life wasted.
