Lightning Storm From Airplane

That is one of the best sights in the world, seeing a storm from an airplane is actually one of my goals to accomplish at least once in my life, i love lightning storms :) too bad we don't get much lightning here in CA :(

Good video ! Most storms form in afternoon, in these latitudes. The people below may be getting whacked with bang after bang of thunder -- maybe not -- sometimes in Gulf of Mexico you get 'sheet lightning' that is silent ! no thunder! Either way scary awesome for them and lucky witness like you on the plane. More videos.

Dukegreg, all lightning makes thunder. Sheet lightning or heat lightning as it's sometimes called are simply the flashes of lightning that is too far away to be heard.

I remember vacationing in Naples Florida in the 1990's and seeing a cable TV weather station that provided continual video of the state of Florida from space. You would see cloud cover with bright lightning flashes within the clouds. The view was from higher than an airplane. Does anyone remember seeing this? I was flying over Illinois at sunset once and I saw an anvil shaped cloud. I saw some lightning, but not alot. Though, I did see this huge strong lightening bolt strike trough it. It might have hit something down on the ground somewhere.
