Had lightning hit the side of my garage in 2018. Ended up totaling a car that was outside, yards away. Didn’t have a mark on it but the EMP still destroyed stuff inside. Utility boxes on the side of the garage were blown to bits all over my and my neighbors yards. Lots of other damage in the house too (HVAC. cable modem, PS4 Pro, outlets and light fixtures, etc).

@@catwoman2596 It literally struck the ground at the utility boxes so the easy path to ground is what attracted it. From there, I could see where it arc’d into the mains (AC power) through the cable modem (yes, I took it apart). It didn’t only hit cable and electrical though: the metal coolant hoses on the HVAC burned through the roof straps in the attic. This was a direct hit to the house, not some preventable surge from a nearby strike. Of course the car parked in the driveway wasn’t grounded but it was parked on the ground. Seems EMP from the lightning a few yards away killed it indirectly. Insurance wrote it off but it could’ve been as simple as a bad fusible link or as bad as a fried PCM (computer). Symptoms were: No shift selector light, so no start (car could not tell when it was in park).
