I got them in the Black Friday sale and fitted them yesterday. They are amazing. In fact, I am so impressed that I just ordered the clipless pro without the lights to fit on my second bike, so I can swap the light modules over between bikes.

I used to have tiny LED lights on elastic straps which I used as bicycle clips. I think they are a better idea as they stay with you, use your existing pedals and cost about £10 rather than £200.

I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary since a good backlight and a reflector vest 🎽 should do the job just fine without spending extra money on a paddle light. That said, I really appreciate the initiative-it’s always great to have extra safety measures for night rides!

I’ve ridden with “downlighting” for years. It all started with wanting to check my gears as I rode in the total darkness of Eryri. After a few people remarked how easy it was to see a pool of light on the road I modified the rig with a yellow light. One car driver said he liked the way it gave him something definite to drive around, much easier to judge. Looks really spooky when crossing open areas …… UFO sightings next😂

Might have been interested in these when I was still commuting - even though I'd have needed to switch out the road pedals. Pricey but anything that improves safety in the dark months is probably worth it. Will be interesting to see how these do.

Likewise - if I'd still been riding home in Glasgow at 11pm these would have definitely lived on my bike!

My winter boots (Shimano MW5) are covered in reflective material over the toes. But i think it's a missed opportunity to not have red or orange reflective on the heel. Oh the price of fashion...

Are these road legal in the UK? My understanding was the law states you must have reflectors on each pedal when cycling in the dark.

You’re right - they should have orange reflectors. Which almost all road pedals don’t have, making them illegal in the UK. Yet that’s what everyone uses. If these are going to keep me safer then I’ll use them. Oh and you also need reflectors on your bike too.

@@alwaysanotheradventureyes - never heard of this being enforced or even raised in the event of an accident / insurance claim. Let's face it, lights are a lot more effective than reflectors.

You are true and it's ridiculous that it's still the case. The laws needing updating as lights are much more effective than reflectors.

Yeah not cheap and they’re heavy - so not for sunny summer rides. But dark winter nights I really feel illuminated.

Are these really that practical for commuters? I feel like they'd almost certainly get stolen, and to avoid that you've got to unplug 4 wet and muddy devices to chuck in your bag, every time you park up. People in London nick anything, wheels, seats, I even had a £5 crappy plastic phone mount unscrewed and stolen once when I left it on my bike.

I would have used them - they slip out as easy as taking off your front light, and not every commuter has to leave their bike on the street. Many employers now have secure bike spaces.

@@alwaysanotheradventureYeah that's true. I see the value of the product itself, I'm just so wary of putting anything remotely valuable on a workhorse bike.Great if you've got secure storage at both ends though.
