This is my new homemade Lightweight Camp Kitchen or Chuck Box with Telescopic Levelling Legs. I built it to be as lightweight as possible to make it easy to get out of the car or trailer.
I incorporated telescopic legs to ensure that it would be level and stable on any surface.
I have not tested it yet on a real camping trip, so I don't know how well the sunken gas stove will work. I am hoping the wooden sides will shield the stove from the wind, but I need to check to see how hot they get. In my garage, with no wind, they get a little warm, but not enough to be uncomfortable. As with everything, if you decide to copy my design, please be sure to check your new project for safety before use.

Nice build I would make 2 mods one add small wheels on one side for transport. 2 add aluminum flashing around the burner section. Adj legs are great idea

looks good. my only criticism would be access to the cooker controls?

Yes. In practice, it has worked out like that. There is room to get to them but it is a little tight.

Could you hinge the front to drop down? I little added bench space

This is fantastic! Thanks for this video. By chance do you have a link to the plastic storage bins you used? I can't find anything similar.

Thanks for your comments. I got the plastic boxes from a local store, but I'm afraid I can't remember exactly which, so I don't have a link for you.

I like to keep the tops on my storage containers but when I’m using the items, I store the lids under each bin. But when I’m finished I put the lids on tight to keep bugs out. Nothing worse than flies or spiders inside y utensil bin!

Where did you get the legs from, or did you build them?

I built them myself. If you go to the in depth build video, I show you how I did it. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2m1p3yOl52lsMU I think they start at 31.28 minutes in.

Guess what....... I actually watched all of this one lmfao. Actually looks pretty good mate. Some wheels on one side would be great and I would suggest a board to raise the cooker and allow you to have a full length bench rather than just the 2 on the side.

Hi Mick. It would be easy to take out 2 of the legs and replace them with wheeled versions, but the idea of this is to make it light enough to get it out of the trailer easily. Wheels would be good if you had to walk a long way, but from now on I am planning not to have to take it more than a few metres from the car. The idea behind the recessed top is to make the box lighter and help protect the stove against the wind. If I had a full length bench, I would still have to use the middle section to put the stove on..

@@FishingwithDen I was thinking something that folds down under where the stove is not and just be sat on top if needed. When not using the cooker it could hide away under it to provide more length.

@@aussiecarpfishos8423 These things are always open to change. The beauty of such projects is that if you decide to build one, you can add your own specific ideas. I bet many of the other viewers are thinking about other little changes too.

@@FishingwithDen yes and a little addition like the 3 fold wind break you mentioned will be no hassle to make up quick and just sit inside. Same deal with the extra bit I'm thinking.

Would plywood get ruined by rain?
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 4 жыл бұрын
Plywood can be bought in various different types. Cheap Plywood would definitely fall apart very quickly if it got wet. I used Marine Plywood, which is more expensive, but uses waterproof glue. Either way, it is always advisable to coat the plywood in a waterproof layer like Marine Varnish. 2 coats should work just fine.
