It's important to remember that at least on the Specialized, and probably on the Orbea, you can use your smart phone to set the power level however you want in each of the power modes. For example, on the Specialized, you could set "Eco" to give you 100% of the motor's power. You wouldn't do that, but in any test, it should be stated what the power levels are in each mode. I'm 77 years old and just finished a butt grinding 24 mile out and back ride on the Colorado Trail from Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass, all at 10,000 to 11,000 feet in elevation. Rocks and roots galore and 3500 vertical feet. I will tell you, it was great to have Turbo power left for the last 3 miles of uphill back to the trailhead. The super lights are fine for younger lighter riders, but for 195 pounders like me, at age 77, the big motor is really really really nice!

“This feels like a normal bike but my legs are gigantic.” That sounds pretty much like what I’m after. I don’t want a riding experience different than an analog mtb, I just want legs like I was 25 years old again.

Rise M20 owner here, I bought lightweight to get me up to the top of hills, valleys and trails without the leg ache of a non ebike. It's 20kg so just a tad heavier than my last bike so still feels like an mtb. I can get a 30 mile day out xc or at the bike parks and can fit my extender (+1.5kg) at get approx 55miles.

I would love to see a comparison of the same loop on both bikes also include some measures of effort like average and peak heart rate, average speed, etc. I think this would also give a good comparison between the two bikes.

get the aluminium rise and ride in boost 540 battery in that and still feels like a normal bike and can still lift it over stuff ....plus when you are over the assit level not as heavy to peddle .. love it

Yes, I own a Radon, pretty heavy full power ebike and when I ride over the assist level it's pretty heavy to spin around. But maybe that's also bcause the powerful motor gives you such an advantage on climbs. But definitely would like to give the Rise a try.

I'm 70, my wife is 69. We're looking pretty hard at the new Fuel EXe for next summer. It appears to compare with the Rise in battery capacity and power output (50Nm Vs 60, though). I'd love to see a comparison between the two. My biggest concern was battery life. I really thought it was interesting to see both bikes completing your circuit with about the same battery power, as a percentage, being left. Was the loop really 5:40 moving? And was the Rise about the same, time wise? I ask because 5+ hours on a 360 Wh battery seems very impressive! I may have missed it. Did you use profile 1 or 2 on the Rise for power output? We have over 400 miles of singletrack up here in Park City and over riders over 65 can ride eBikes on them, so it may be time to take advantage of that. There's no ride out here in northern Utah I can't do on my Giant Trance, so I'm just not thinking a full power bike is necessary. Maybe when I'm 80?

I ride PC with my 2021 Giant Trance X 29 3, it's overkill once you learn the proper cadence. Using 2 or 3 power is fine for Armstrong up, then Pinecone. 17-24 miles a day, 1,100 miles this season, always end up with 39% battery. I'm going to a Rise H30 to enjoy the downhills! Elevation is as critical as total miles, and e's love the ups.

Both 😎 Just bought the levo comp and the fuel exe 9.8th. I pick up the levo next week. I’ve been riding the fuel for 5 days and absolutely love it. For some days I’ll want less of a work out and have less time for a ride and that will be the levo day.

Really enjoyed the video. Some good points made about both bikes and a really good route to test the bikes on. As someone who just bought an Orbea Rise H15 from Tredz (the aluminium version of the bike, with 540 w battery, with a complete weight of around 21kg), i was curious to know if the testers used the Shimano E-Tubes app to adjust the settings (from factory to rider specified) of their Rise on test? Having watched another KZbin video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpSvanR5ZtJjeJo), it seems like Orbea/Shimano have not set their "Boost" setting max power or max torque. And "Eco" and "Trail" factory settings are low as well. I adjusted it on our bike and it made a huge difference. Using the "Boost" on steeps hills is now truly awesome, and the difference across the board of all 3 settings really gives the bike a big jump in assistance.

Great video! You read my mind as I used to have a Levo Comp and am now looking at a rise as I’m not that big and want a lighter bike. Is there a full fat bike between these two that has a full motor but is still light-ish???

The new Giant Trance Advanced Elite has an 85nm motor and 400wh battery (250wh range extender available) and is in the 40-47lb range depending on spec. The first I've seen that blends full power motor with lightweight rest of bike. But I also wonder if you can just swap the EP8 on the Rise for an unmodified EP8 to achieve the same thing...

Good review, guys! Good point about the stability/safety of the full fat emtb. I have e Fuel EXe on order, but this ⬆️ point has me thinking more about the choice. 🤔

I have a lightweight rise. Like any bike, you ride at a speed you feel confident at, and you are safe. The rise handles better than any bike I have previously owned, and I've been biking since the 80's. My wife has a Levo, and I sometimes ride it. If going really fast on rocky roads is your thing, it is the champ. It's super stable at high speeds in chunk. For almost everything else, including steep, knarly tracks, I prefer the rise.

I think the full emtb is hard to beat: climbs better, descends more stable, possibly safer, just superior in all nearly all categories. But when you swing your leg over a full emtb, I get a slightly hollow feeling that I'm riding a machine, when I really want to just ride a bike. So for me at 48, I think I'm the light category,. OK with working a bit harder and getting up slower than my full-powered "ebros".

We love how the new breed of lightweight ebikes can keep the nimble and flickable feel of a regular bike.. but some of us still love the power of the bigger ebikes, its a very personal descision.

So I have just ordered the Rise because I am riding it for fitness but I want to do bigger loops. If I want a winch around the whole loop I would get a motorbike - and that’s not what mountain biking is about.

better when you are over the assit level 25kph too 👍which you will be on flatter trails
@natetraveller4249

@@zed5129 so above 25kmph in Europe it’s the same the full torque / effort comes from the rider - and on a full ebike probably harder due to weight. Below this the torque on the rise is set lower and capped so you have to put in more effort to achieve a similar speed but as a result needs less/smaller battery but can deliver the same range.

It's funny reviewers talk about the 2pot vs 4 pot brakes in reviews on the H30.... An ebike weighs 10kg more than a normal MTB... I weight 95kg at the moment (hopefully, could be worse), plus gear..... Is the issue really about the extra ebike weight when the fat git sat on it is 10 times more difference in weight??? "You need 4 pots due to the weight/speed of the ebike".... My marin has two pots and copes fine with a big fat git going as fast as I can.... 😂😅
