This thing has connected all the dots for me . I was influenced by this and left the faith, but its very failure brought me back to the faith. Till today i didn't know the term postmodernism and that i was a victim of it. But with this sermon, i now could clearly understand what I was affected by and also how I realized its failure. Praise god for saving me from the subversion. It is the quest for meaning and absolute truths , that helped me see through the subversion. Again i thank god for hastening my heart and drawing me to him. God may your servant al mohler be blessed.I thank you for him.

@AnarchoRepublican Marxism rejects Postmodernism which in fact developed largely as a reaction against Marxist thought. No offense but this is a truly ignorant and blatantly false comment. It seems much of your work is before you if you intend to dig out of this haphazard, fictionalized perspective. You may want to start by actually reading even a page or two of Marx's work which clearly you have not done.

It's easy to say this man is brilliant. Because he is. But you also must realize that what he speaks in this sermon is, to be honest, quite obvious to those with open eyes. That's not to say that I don't appreciate his passion and articulation on the subject. I do. I have a profound respect for this man. What I'm trying to say is that we must all use our God given power to analyze and interpret our surroundings without the aid of such gifted men as the forum of free speech will most likely be muted in the near future. Thank you Dr. Mohler.

There are certainly a few things that concern me, but I still confidently think Mohler is biblically sound. FAR more troublesome are individuals such as Ligon Duncan, David Platt, Russell Moore, and (especially) Tim Keller & Matt Chandler.

I cannot but agree with you. I am at a point where I am questioning the church's slow action and reactionary move to serious issue of how church should speak truth to the culture, instead of being fearful and not wanting to offend but please everyone. It's a bit disappointing how Dr. Mohler has shifted grounds abit or more on these serious issue and let his guide down. Social gospel won't do it. One of his error was in saying the most pressing issue is just preaching the gospel, which I agree but when it comes to church gathering, women can't be Pastors, and the job of the Pastor is to shepherd the sheep through the word of God. He said it doesn't matter any more. All I can do is pray for him, pray for myself and others so that we stay true to the word of God. Amen

Impressive. One of the best discourse on post-modernism heard on youtube. The idea that absolute Truth doesn't exist (except this one). appears to be the essence of post-modernism. A profoundly misguided notion which can only lead to self-destruction.

The "Lord´s Recovery" or "Local Church" teaches that their founder, Witness Lee, was God´s unique appointed minister of the age. They claim Witness Lee interpreted the whole Bible accurately and apart from him and his ministry you cannot really understand the Bible. They even say it's dangerous to read the Word of God directly because you will misunderstand it, so you need a qualified teacher´s interpretation, who is only Witness Lee and his ministry.

If you are going to use art to illustrate a point, trying to give the impression you are are an erudite man of learning at least get it right. Picasso's Guernica was not about a firing squad, that was Goya's famous painting which was not about the Spanish Civil war but Napoleon's invasion of Spain in 1808.

Stongly disagree, especially about the "Post Modernist" Architecture. An unfortunate political point to even use the label. The corrupted Roman and Greek age called Classical are revered. The seeking generation of Architects are more pure, indeed the benefit of this age. When your critique of art becomes political it becomes unstable--a postmodern critique at best. God is not a classicist. He said "I Am That I Am" point positive that people are the ones who create things like classicism and modernism, God liberates you to create, just as free as in Jazz. And those seeking God in all early forms are mocked at best by imitators. I appreciate not being lumped in to a "postmodern" type, when a great work is the referential point despite its age. Adam and Eve were not sinful because their simplicity and absence of structure beyond existence--the hope of many who break from rules, but at the adaption to another standard than God. Don't shame post modernism for its purity. Encourage them in pursuit of truth outside the bounds of time and power, where believers know God dwells.

Mr. Mohler radically misinterprets Post Modernism and the purposes and uses of Language. His characterization of a Post Modern Bible Study radically misinterprets the purpose of those studies and concretizes something that cannot be concretized-the idea that everyone is going to read the same passage from the Bible and get the same concrete meaning from it is ridiculous on the face of it. Of course a 2000 + year old document that was translated many times from Aramaic will have different interpretations-How could it not? Mr Mohler makes the point of the post-modernists in the first 11 minutes of his presentation and detracts severely from both his message about Christianity and Post Modernism.
@colleen1103

Firstly the New Testament was never in the Aramaic it was in Greek. Secondly every modern translation of the bible is directly from the the earliest known manuscripts -so is translated only once! Thirdly the Dead Sea scrolls reveal that the bible has not changed at all.
@LenBoatman
@LenBoatman 7 жыл бұрын
What was the original language of the Bible? The texts were mainly written in Biblical Hebrew, with some portions (notably in Daniel and Ezra) in Biblical Aramaic. Biblical Hebrew, sometimes called Classical Hebrew, is an archaic form of the Hebrew language. The very first translation of the Hebrew Bible was into Greek. SO, from Hebrew to Greek to English (and from the Council of Nicea and the King James "version")...to your interpretation of what those words mean. The point I was making was that language and reality are not equal to each other...one is a limited description of the other. Which is the point the post modernists were making. Which is the point you and Mr. Mohler missed and likely will continue to miss.
@LenBoatman

Seems like you're fundamentally misinterpreting the implication of his argument as far as Bible studies. He wasn't denying that people would have different interpretations of the text, but rather he was saying that there is an absolute meaning in the text that transcends personal interpretation in importance. As far as your point in the reply section of this comment, I concede that, among fallen humans, language is a limited description of reality; however, coming from a viewpoint that the Bible is divinely inspired and therefore infallible, as Dr. Mohler does, you must conclude that it *perfectly* describes the realities discussed therein and contains absolute truth. Therefore, there must be a correct interpretation of the text, which was his point all along.
@LenBoatman
@LenBoatman 7 жыл бұрын
and it seems to me you are fundamentally misinterpreting reality to suit Mr. Mohler's tautologies..."coming from a viewpoint that the Bible is divinely inspired". Yes, if I take Mr. Mohler's word for what he believes to be correct about postmodernism and/or the Bible, what he says is true-but that statement is meaningless. Mr. Mohler is demonstrably wrong about Postmodernism and as far as his claims about the inerrancy of the Bible...Extraordinary Claims require extraordinary proof -of which he has provided none.
