Over the past 20-25 years, Ligue 1 has always been a league willing to sell players to foreign clubs. From Zinedine Zidane to Thierry Henry to Paul Pogba, France is good at exporting football players. The only major exception has been Kylian Mbappe due to the wealth of PSG.

Leeds really wanted him last summer, really wanted him. In the end they bought Llorente and Koch, two international defenders for the fee offered for White. With a heavy heart, the whole fanbase admitted they had been very wise traders. Will add, having seen him play every game for Leeds, the weakness in White's game is his strength and aerial ability. If your team desire these qualities, don't buy White.

@@davidmarkaldridge9546, Ben White can pass the ball and tackle but he’s not good in the air. I am a Leeds fan also. He had Cooper at the side of him. We signed 3 players for 50 million, 2 central defender and a Brazilian genius. He’d done well at a top 5 club. It’s surprising that we got him so cheap for 17 million but 12 upfront and the rest in add ons.

It's still shocking to see that so many clubs don't have enough money and they have to sell to help their club run , but then there is German League, who don't have that much money but they use the money in the best way possible . It's amazing to see how good their system is .

What's so good about that farmer's league? If the Bundesliga was as good as people claim it to be then it wouldn't be a one horse race ten years in a row. Even in the Champions League, there is one Bayern Munich who compete from Germany for the title, no one else whereas the Premier League has at least three teams vying for the title.

Lyon is the biggest question mark for me, they have three 20+m€ players returning from loan, Andersen is the only one who's played at all while on loan. Depay has left a big hole and they have no one to replace his assists and goals numbers. They have plenty of promising players (Bard, Cherki) who got little playing time so far. They do have a very strong midfield. And they've got a new manager who's still unproven and will have no transfer budget. We could end up anywhere between 2nd and 8th in L1

The issue is with the thick pundits that most media outlets employ. They have dumbed down our football understanding for years. These guys are professionals whose job is to understand football whereas all the media outlets across the board hire guys who played football. Not really sure why they think the audience want that, and in fact i'd suggest it's the total opposite; they hate these chancers.

The effect on the home market will be huge with players of similar or better ability available from France at much lower fees. Other than Villa, who seem determined to support the EFL each season with crazy fees, Watkins and Buendia, no -one is buying English this summer . . . and just when EFL clubs will be looking for a financial boost. As such, expect a flurry of late cheap deals from the Championship too.

Not necessarily true, clubs playing in Europe are required to have a minimum of 4 players trained by the club and 8 trained within the nation for a minimum of 3 years before they turn 21. This is actually the reason why good English players are so ex0ensive in the first place, the big teams need them to fill out there squad. If they don't have these players they are restricted with the number they can register for European competition.
@dodge33cymru

So many comments seeing this as an opportunity for people's chosen clubs, but IMO it's a terrible thing for football that the bottom clubs in England can buy the players from the top French Champions' League clubs; it's at risk of becoming the Super League by stealth. Don't get me wrong, it's arguably improving competitiveness in the English top flight, but for the future of continental football it's a grim future unless the other league's can find investors with similar pockets. It's a pity because the future of French teams as a competitive European force seemed to be on the way up with this original deal.

@@miamitten1123 Covid is a nightmare for football. Not only no audience, but people worried about jobs and the future have little patience for millionaires whining about lack of crowds. Football enthusiasm in general has cooled off; and with the EURO2020s giving a good show case on how large crowds spread the disease again, there will be no support for having crowds in stadiums when numbers rise again ... leading to another period of empty stands - which in turn make it less attractive to watch them on the Teley. And at the same time there are crazy fees in the air again. Like that 150m€ for Haaland. Thats just an insane amount of money and the feeling of a parallel universe between football and the average guy on the street will intensify.

@@AlexJones-ue1ll disagree.. fans are itching to get back into the grounds. The love for your club hasn’t really changed. Pricing may change, but English clubs are well financed, and whole clubs are being bought for peanuts in France, Belgium etc. More groups of several clubs are coming, Utd World for example.. Sheff Utd that is. There’s economies of scale, and transferral/specific roles like recruitment/data management, still in development for football. Pubs are going out of business, because beers are in supermarkets. Football clubs and crowds will endure beyond covid.. they’ve survived pandemics and wars before, and the fundamentals are still there. Football teams bond communities.

@@PhilWhelanNow they are well financed ... now. Thanks mostly to overpriced tickets and a overvalue TV deal. Next time the TV deal is up for negotiation, it might only be half, or two thirds of what its now. And then the "well financed" clubs may have problem. Ligue 1 clubs always sell their best players, not much new there. Perhaps temporarily at a faster rate due to this TV deal thing, but basically nothing new.

About 5-10 million at the most. Hardly the 40 million they could sell him for with a year left on his contract. Nobody is paying more than that, unless it’s PSG. I made Barca broke on FM21 and they sold everyone, like in real life that would bring in money and not many went as also changed the rest of the clubs but city get 500 million in sponsorship even tho I took 400 out of there bank account.

I'm assuming the CFG will have to sell at least 51% of Troyes AC won't they? I didn't think you could control more than one club in the top flight on each continent?

Makes no sense for players like Pogba to join Ligue Un at this rate, still at the peak of his powers; would be a waste to go there just for some cash that he can still get at United and play on the biggest stage.

Match day losses due to COVID is only 10% of revenue. Sure, it's not good to lose 10% but COVID getting wheeled out as the 1st factor for all these financial issues is misleading, and gives all this poor management an excuse. It down to incompetence...not COVID.

5:08 and this is the real problem with French soccer. The Premier league has ruined it with its rude and biased fans who think that the league is useless yet love how their teams have great players who have been bought from leagues like Ligue 1
