I like death metal. And I like melody. So what about melodic death metal? Hailing from Sweden, Arch Enemy have been part of the metal scene since 1995 and have 11 albums under their belt. It's about time I get my teeth into them for the very first time...
Make sure you check out the full uninterrupted video here: • ARCH ENEMY - Handshake...
And binge their channel here: ‪@archenemyofficial‬
Enjoy 🤘
Oh yeah... please subscribe to my channel so you get notified when I upload more content to the interweb 😁
Thank you for watching

Yep, the band is from Sweden. Lead vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, is from Montreal, Canada. , and longtime lead vocalist, Angela Gossow is German. 11 albums to date, 3 with Alissa. Yes ,Jeff Loomis recently left the band, replaced by American Joey Concepcion. This is a newer song, from the 11th album, Deceivers. Most of their songs are harsh vocal only, so this song is a rarity with the cleans. Personally , I usually prefer cleans mixed in with harsh. Alissa has a beautiful clean voice, I wish she would do more. Agree, Alissa is one of the excellent female harsh vocalist, along with Tatiana, and also Courtney from Spiritbox, and I love Mayu from Nemophila. Another one you haven't tried yet is Lena Scissorhands from Infected Rain (Because I Let You, and Lighthouse are a couple new songs). But back to Arch Enemy, since you liked this, and want to check out more , popular reaction songs are "The Eagle Flies Alone" with Alissa, and "Nemesis" with Angela.

Arch Enemy was created in 1996 with the male singer Johan Liiva. After initial success, they separated in 2000. When they sent their fourth album to the critics in 2001, they didn't reveal who the new singer was because they feared discrimination. Only when the reviews were written did they announce the German Angela Gossow as the new growler. Angela not only takes over the microphone, but also the entire band. She soon became their new manager. In this dual role she can establish Arch Enemy as a well-known band. In 2014, due to there success, the double role became too much and she passed the microphone on to the French Canadian Alissa White-Gluz and continued as the band's manager. With Allisa, Arch Enemy finally becomes one of the big bands.

Johan Nilvå (Nilva) was the 1st singer in the band. And the one bf. I know Mike since our teens. And Angela ex singer. And Chris and Daniel. We musicians come all from same small town in Sweden, as do Roxette. Halmstad. 100.000 citizens at max. All musicians from here know each other. I'm meeting with Johan Nilvå in a week. I met Alissa when she was here in "Arch Enemy in school" Larger than life!

Another singer that effortlessly switches between cleans and growls is Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum/The Dark Side Of The Moon).. and in my opinion she does it the best of the lot. She uses the growls sparingly though as the music is more of a symphonic nature. mostly, and she uses growls to put accents in the songs.

Maybe not a popular choice for reaction videos, but I strongly recommend you "Enemy within", a song with their previous singer Angela Gossow, it's a masterpiece from first album with her. Other than that, you won't be dissappointed with "My Apocalypse", one of the most energetic songs Arch Enemy has ever released IMO.

If you are delving into Melodic Death Metal I would like to recommend a couple of my favourite albums. Hatebreeder by Children of Bodom and Abysmal by The Black Dahlia Murder. Vastly different styles, the former being more neo-classical focused while the latter having a more Black Metal flavour.

You gotta check out some songs from the Angela Gossow era of Archenemy. That era is critically under reacted to on youtube, but Angela is one of the OG scream queens, and IIRC Alyssa is/was her student. If you want a real high energy one, check Ravenous. The Live in Tokyo version is super kick ass.

Arch Enemy is majestic and definitely a supergroup even after all the lineup changes! I have been a fan since early 2007 (I think) and the first song I ever heard was "We Will Rise" with their previous singer, a trailblazer for women in extreme metal, Angela Gossow, who is now managing them. I highly recommend it. That song got me to like harsh vocals! The clean singing here is not something AE does often, but imho, when you have someone like Alissa on board, it's bound to happen at some point. My favourite songs with Alissa are "House of Mirrors" and "First Day in Hell", the latter is just spine chilling. Also, as far as I know, Alissa White-Gluz and Tatiana Shmailyuk are good friends :D

From the comments I've read thus far, I think I've got to tackle Angela next. I don't mind 100% harsh vocals, but I just like the variety when it's clean and harsh combined. Nemesis live in n Tokyo has had a few mentions so far, but I'm adding all of your to my notes too 👍

Alissa has only used her clean vocals a few times in Arch Enemy. Handshake With Hell and Reason to Believe features them throughout the songs. Avalanche has them buried in the mix during the chorus. Every other song is the rougher vocals. Recently guitarist Jeff Loomis parted ways with Arch Enemy. His work in Arch Enemy is not even close to what he can do. His work in Nevermore was insane. Especially the album This Godless Endeavor.

I think the reason this specific track was recommended to me because I enjoy the clean/hard vocal blend. But I'm definitely interested in listening to the 100% harsh tunes.

Wait, you've never listened to Nevermore??? Brother, you are missing out on one of the greatest Progressive/Power metal bands of all time!! The first song you ever hear from them HAS to be "The River Dragon Has Come." But, if you have to watch a music video, because of content for KZbin, I would suggest "Born" or "Final Product"

@@melvinthinks no no no! The only reason I said that, is because "some" people considered Warrel Dane's vocals to be more like power metal. Because he has moments where his vocals go high, a la Geoff Tate from Queensryche. Please, don't let that deter you. Nevermore are heavy AF 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
