Irina opened her café with the support of a micro-credit loan, received from the Crystal, a microfinance institution in Georgia. Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 around 245,000 Ukrainians came to Georgia. The population has been very mobile, and there are now some 26,600 Ukrainians remaining in the country.
The Government of Georgia has assured Ukrainians access to healthcare and education, including cash assistance for the most vulnerable, and hosting of refugees in Hotels at the start of the emergency. Civil society, private sector and individual initiatives have been an integral part of the Georgian response to the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
