Man, I don't know what to say... Sidie your vids are getting better, but the numbers are getting smaller. I'm sorry about that. Loving the Bali series! For all those that are new to STL, he's a good bloke. Doesn't act up to the camera, shows it as it is, has genuine interactions with locals and shows off places to stay for 20 bucks! No, I'm not a relative, I'm just a guy who's been following STL for a couple of years through his Thailand adventures, to Malaysia and Indo. I wish you all the best, brother. Hope to bump into you in a beach bar sometime soon! You've sold Bali to me, for sure!!

Loved the video! True story.......back in 1998, husband and I were vacationing/charity work in the Yucatan. We heard a family with 2 small children lost everything in a fire in their rented stick hut. We were able to donate $680 US dollars to them so they could buy one hectare (2.5 acres) of land to build on in Tulum. That land is now $2.5 million US dollars! Enjoy your awesome budget traveling while you still can!😂

We have a house in Tulum Country Club. Prices are pretty stagnant right now, but expensive. And the weak dollar is making it very expensive here; used to be fairly affordable. We just went to Akumal to an ice cream shop and they wanted $5 USD for one scoop. Nope. We won't be here much longer. This place has priced itself beyond what it is worth.

Just to let you know from one Canuck to another, when I woke up this morning it was - 42 with the wind chill and the snow is waist deep and as been like this for a bit. We aren't even in Canadas' north but about half way up Manitoba. What really sucks is that winter has just started and by February we'll be a grumpy lot. That being said, if I can't get there this year, at least I'll have your vids to give me happy thoughts and keep warm.

We visited Kuta Beach (Lombok) around 30 years ago. There was no town back then where we were - just a couple of Losmans accommodating a few surfers and a couple of Warungs. The beach we spent time at had some really nice waves and the water was as perfect as anybody could imagine. It can't have been the exact location of the current Kuta town - possibly around the point where the small waves roll in. Back then we were told that (Japanese) hotel developers had bought considerable tracts of the coastal land and that large hotels would be built - I guess from your video that this is still the plan although the town and the race track will certainly make that happen. We were also shown the site where an airport was planned along with golf courses, and of course this was aimed at attracting wealthy Japanese tourists (probably also tourists from Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong for that matter). Some of those plans have yet to materialise but as you say, be careful what you wish for - when it happens life will be forever altered for those who belong there. I remember it being idyllic. Even though Sengiggi had a Sheraton, it was also just a small town with a few shops and a some budget accommodation scattered around along the beach front. We shared the beach with the Sheraton (and my wife spent a few days lounging around their pool - although they moved me on quite quickly whenever they saw me taking liberties with their pool).

@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 2 жыл бұрын
On Tanjung Ann Beach itself, both ends were cleaned (can also see a beach cleaner with wheel barrow in my vid). However, if one comes in between cleaning times and with tides constantly washing debris (particularly after a rainfall) , you'll likely see more. Also as seen driving on the access rd to the beach, unfortunately there's litter in the shrubs along the road. As stated there needs to be more public awareness regarding littering.

Wow, that all looked amazing. Pity about the new laws they have passed.
@SideTripLife
@SideTripLife 2 жыл бұрын
S Lombok is absolutely lovely (just need more public awareness on littering). Regarding the so-called 'new law', what actually passed was a DRAFT framework bill which now has 3 years of hearings, committees, revisions and votes before anything new gets entered into the penal code (also, highly unlikely to affect foreign tourists in any event). For any interested in the facts (vs click-bait interpretive 'reporting') will copy n paste my response below from a longer thread from earlier: ========== -Agree, tourism may indeed take a hit - but due to incomplete click-bait journalism and social media re-twits... also, 'IF' the DRAFT is enacted in 3 years time (following multiple revisions and votes). Then even 'if' passed in 3 years time, the clause can only be acted upon 'IF' reported by a parent or child or husband/wife in case of adultery. Again, it's highly unlikely a tourist and local companion would be reported (unless the parents, spouse or possibly child makes a complaint) and far less likely a tourist couple would be either. ---------------- Translated from the actual DRAFT Bill - Criminal Code Bill Adultery Article 415: No prosecution is carried out except on complaints by: a. husband or wife for people who are bound by marriage; or b. Parents or children for people who are not bound by marriage. --------------- I'm not defending any side here, simply pointing out the facts behind the click-bait headlines, incomplete hilights and misinterpretations all for the sake of clicks/views. Anyways, since various positions have now had a say here, will close this thread as it has ZERO effect on present day travel, plus remains uncertain what may transpire in 3 years time and moreover doesn't apply to the topic of this vid. Thanks all.

CORRECTION: 30/THIRTY days visa on arrival (for most countries) then can extend another 30 in country. Some agent sites say this can be extended twice (??) Best contact a BALI visa agent as they are more in the know. Here's a cut n paste from one: The single entry visa is one of the favorite options for medium to long term stays in Bali. The visa allows for stays of up to 6 months in Indonesia. After this 6-month period, foreigners can apply for a new single entry visa again for another period of 6 months. This process can be repeated several times. However, foreigners may face scrutiny from immigration authorities if they repeat this process too often. The procedure for obtaining a single entry visa is straight forward and the fees for obtaining the visa are low as compared to the limited stay permit (ITAS / KITAS). There are several types of single entry visa. The most used types are: Social single entry visa (sosial budaya visa), which is usually sponsored by an Indonesian citizen and allows foreigners to engage in social activities. Single entry business visa, where an Indonesian company needs to act as sponsor. This visa allows foreigners to have business meetings in Indonesia. In Bali, the single entry visa is often used by digital nomads to work from Bali on their remote jobs. However, single entry visas do not allow foreigners to work in Indonesia. In case foreigners work in Indonesia, they require a work permit and a limited stay permit (ITAS / KITAS).

Bali 20 years ago was jam packed .You should change the heading to 40 years ago .You have a good voice but it goes up and down to the point that you whisper most of the time .Otherwise a good video though.I could not do it myself .

Love beaches like this! No interest in mass tourism resort beaches.

Imagine being annoyed because you have to pay a couple of dollars to go to the beach when you have the privilege of even being able to travel 😂

For myself as stated, no problem (also helps employ people to maintain the beaches) and for sure I feel both fortunate and grateful to be able to travel, even on a budget.

@SideTripLife yeah it certainly wasn't directed at you, the caption just pointed out that some people are annoyed by it. It bothers me that people can be so entitled when some of those very people who are cleaning the beaches or collecting money for parking may never have the opportunity to travel.

Be careful! The Indonesians just passed a law that there is no sex outside of marriage, and that includes for tourists. I’m thinking you are one of the last few people who are going to be enjoying being a tourist in Indonesia.

The new DRAFT legislation (IF enacted in 3 years time;) can only be implemented 'IF' reported by a parent or child or husband/wife in case of adultery. It's highly unlikely a tourist and local companion would be reported (unless the parents, spouse or possibly child makes a complaint) and even more unlikely a tourist couple would be affected. Again, all of the DRAFT clauses basically re-vamping Dutch laws are subject to revisions and multiple votes within three years time (meanwhile, the press/twitter etc is having a field day with the easy click bait;)

Ahh,,yet another victim of western idelogy agenda,,those law are product of democratic process. There is judicial review to contest the law to the court, which is filed to almost every new law in Indonesia by the peoples or NGO alikes (yes we are democratic country, the flawed one according to your "westernized" standard but still). Besides, the heck you worry about, unless you want to exploit and tricked some gullible locals nothing gonna happen to you and your foreign partner since it's an absolute complaint delict. Only legal partner, parents, legal siblings could filed the complaint before the investigation can go through. Funny how some of you opposed a result of democratic process with smearing campaign but smiling and coming in drove to the land of junta (the highly opposed one by the peoples). I just don't get it. Just let the democratic process take the role. It is what it is.

@@SideTripLife JAKARTA - Indonesia’s parliament on Tuesday banned sex outside marriage with a punishment of up to one year in jail, despite worries the laws may scare away tourists from its shores and harm investment. Indonesians tProtest Law Banning Sex Outside Marriage. Lawmakers approved a new criminal code which will apply to Indonesians and foreigners alike and also prohibit cohabitation between unmarried couples. It will also ban insulting the president or state institutions, spreading views counter to the state ideology, and staging protests without notification. The laws were passed with support from all political parties. However, the code will not come into effect for three years to allow for implementing regulations to be drafted. Currently, Indonesia bans adultery but not premarital sex. Maulana Yusran, deputy chief of Indonesia’s tourism industry board, said the new code was “totally counter-productive” at a time when the economy and tourism were starting to recover from the pandemic………it’s NOT going to be pretty! Tourism WILL TAKE A HIT!

Agree, tourism may indeed take a hit - but due to incomplete click-bait journalism and social media re-twits... also, 'IF' the DRAFT is enacted in 3 years time (following multiple revisions and votes). ---------------- Translated from the actual DRAFT Bill - Criminal Code Bill Adultery Article 415: No prosecution is carried out except on complaints: a. husband or wife for people who are bound by marriage; or b. Thanks all.
