Wow, I had forgot all about molasses. In the 1950's while visiting my grandparents dairy farm my grandmother sent me out to the barn to get some molasses that was stored in old milk cans. That evening she surprised me after dinner with her homemade molasses cookies - what a treat! My grandfather was a big believer in a small amount molasses mixed in with the daily food for his registered holstein cows during the winter. Your videos bring back many great memories - thanks.

@@chris3m98 They are much easier to work with due to their disposition and size. Also they are ideal for small acreage farms. Our farm is 70 acres with about 40 acres of pasture. I can run twice as many Dexters as I could Angus. Their meat is 4 star in taste. I sell it as fast as I get it. I also crossed breed my Dexter Bull with an Angus heifer and a Charolais heifer for my customers who want a larger quantity of meat. also they are great for new farmers because they are really easy to work with. Hope that helps..take care

My first memory of molasses is as a young kid we had hogs. To fatten them up had a 55 gallon drum of crude molasses. Mix with grain and feed. Smelled so good I went to the house and got a small bowl and mixed me some. Dad was gone. When he hot home and saw what I was doing let’s just say he wasn’t happy. Not because I was eating crude molasses and grain and get sick but because I was taking valuable feed from the hogs. Funny later but a long ways from that at the time.

Hi Pete, our nighttime temps have been below freezing and in the 40s during the day. All we got was rain, thank goodness. I remember the storm when we lost power in the 1990s it was 5 weeks before everyone got power, AND that was snow and ice. What a mess. That was lovely though, it brought back childhood memories from Ohio. Tell the bulls, Ginger says Hi! Stay safe.
@GAPeach58

Where are you in TN? I remember that awful storm, I was living in Memphis when it came through. It sheared power boxes off houses & looked like Paul Bunyan walked around pulling up trees or breaking them in half. I was blessed to have natural gas & only did without power a few days. But, I was off work & had to stay home with my children then due to school closings. Police were even telling people to stay off the streets.

@@GAPeach58 Nashville is close. AND yes, school was closed here too. We were without power for over a week, and I had a friend over with her kids. It was a mess around here. I never want to see that again. We lost 5 huge trees!

@@vmcougarintn5035 Yes it was a scary mess. I was a single mother with two elementary school children. My car was stuck in my driveway for two days cause a tree was bent over & frozen. Unluckily it was behind the car towards driveway closer to the street. My landlord helped cut it down when he came to check on us. My church pastor was driving around checking on members & offering housing to those without power. But, as I said, we were blessed to have gas heat & gas stove & NO frozen pipes (my landlord was a Plumber by trade). 👍😀
