A Frustrating and Rewarding Day Farming

I am retired. My dog wakes me up every morning at 5am. I get my coffee and then I watch Pete and Hillary move their chickens and cows. Great way to start the day! Thanks to both of you!

Picking up small chickens and putting small chickens down, can hardly been seen as "an amazing job” The typical female comment is alway to embellish a menial task (not requiring skill) done by another female, while being sure NOT to recognize the real person (the MAN) that makes the farm run!

Brings back memories of me and my dad building gates in the seventies . I was in school then a welding major and my job with him was a the metal work . My welding has greatly improved since. We used 12 inch hydro pole bolts that we bent and mounted . Thanks for giving me the flash back of my dad .😢 ❤miss you dad .

Hey Pete, here is a tip for you. At the 3:50 mark, where you were installing the hinges, if you cut the bottom hinge just an inch or so shorter than the top hinge it will be easier to line up and attach the gates. Start the top hinge first and then you have some wiggle room as you lower the gate onto the bottom hinge. Clear as mud?

Years ago my Dad and I put cables onto some overly heavy gates I made. Very happy with them but they were a pain to set up. We had to set the eyebolt above with a plumbob to be directly above the hinges or else the cable would go slack or lift the gate when opened. Having round tapered poles made it all the harder. The last several we did the eyebolt first and set both hinges to it and it worked great. I still use them 30 years later.
