Genevieve Gornichec is in my top five favorite writers I've discovered within the last three years. I love her focus on capable, complex heroines and the bonds between women. Doggie! Sweet Luna.

Ok, if you like Fireborne, you should read To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose. So good! They’re both YA so that doesn’t fit the theme of this video but To Shape a Dragon’s Breath filled the Fireborne hole in my heart and the protagonist is so wonderfully thoughtful.

Kindest assessment I’ve seen for someone clearly didn’t like Fourth Wing and the most hilarious description of the Farseer trilogy. Last note: more Luna!

I loved Combat Codes and was so disappointed that the second one isn't out yet, but soon! Highly recommended, too. The Pariah, which is the first of the Covenant of Steel series has become one of my all time favorite fantasy series, it's almost not so much fantasy but more mystical in some ways. I like that Anthony Ryan stays on track with the story of Aywin and doesn't interrupt the flow with interludes (looking at Brandon Sanderson here). And I think Aywin is a better character than Fitz, who I found extremely annoying and a downer Eeyore. I also thought the characters did stupid things in the Farseer books only because it helped Hobb furthered the plot. I've downloaded Rage of Dragons based on this video of recommendations. So thanks!

Old fantasy reader here, I suspect I'm about two and a half to three times your age old fantasy reader and am looking for fantasy books at the age level of Glen Cook's 'The Black Company' series. Yes I have read The Wheel of Time series as they were published. Loved the first few books but got tired as it seemed that the publishers told Robert Jordan to stretch the storyline out. The line by Bilbo Baggins just before he drops the ring "I feel like butter scraped over too much bread." best describes how I felt about the series after Shadow Rising to the last book. So have you read any Glen Cook? He has now retired from writing so no more Garrett Novels, a Dashiell Hammett style private eye in a sword and sorcery world, or any more Instrumentalities of The Night. I know you love Brandon Sanderson but, at least to me, how clumsily he ended Jordan's series makes it difficult for me to take a chance on him. While I don't really expect a direct answer I would be interested in watching your take on Glen Cook's fantasy books.

Can someone recommend unique magic systems ans story lines
@camologeek
@camologeek Жыл бұрын
Not couting Brando Sando, a unique magic system I really like is from the Broken Earth Trilogy. Magic related to seismic activity is a really cool concept. And the story is pretty good, is a society living a catastrophic event.
@camologeek
@camologeek Жыл бұрын
Also, Babel by RF Kuang, the magic is based on language translation and semantics, and the people need to study to learn the concepts and apply it to the real world. That, and the constant theme of colonialism and explotion makes the story kind of preachy, but i think it's interesting as a speculative history drama.

I don’t know much about this particular BookTuber but is her subscriber list consist strictly of middle and high school aged children and young women? Because who would recommend books like this to read in comparison to Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne unless your subscribers are women and middle and high school students…The core group of people who have read John Gwynne are never going to read these series she is recommending…I have also seen in some of this BookTuber’s videos she is consistently recommending a lot of manga and YA and family/romance fantasy…That seems directly targeted at women, girls and middle aged and high school students…I have also noticed and maybe you can help me but does she get a royalty check every time she mentions Brandon Sanderson’s name? I haven’t watched the Lions share of this BookTuber’s videos but in 90% of the ones I have watched she mentions his name and books every chance she gets…She is either having an inappropriate relationship with him or she is on the payroll because if it’s not one of those two things then it’s an unhealthy obsession and she should seek psychiatric treatment…But this video is a poor example of recommendations for Hunger of the Gods because the high percentage of people who read John Gwynne wouldn’t touch these books… Based on the videos I have watched I know this BookTuber seems to me like she’s very sexist and a feminist who has geared her channel at grooming children…I hope this woman doesn’t have a job working with children…This person has 135k subscribers and to me that’s a very scary proposition…

What words triggered you, friend? You seem very politically activated by seemingly nothing she’s done, and imagine her having sexual relations with an author for no reason. Are you offended she’s not catering to your specifically reductive masculine demographic? Are you offended that she dares to relate your favoured fantasy book with these other works you deem outside of your specific political branding? What exactly is triggering these nonsensical associations you’re spouting off?
