I know these fights don't hold a candle to ash gym battles, but that is kind of the point. Ash gym foghts are to show off how powerful he has became on his journey to that point, where these are more of a learning experience for Liko, Roy, and Dot. Also, i love what they did with teddiursa in this episode

I really can’t hold Liko, Roy and Dot to the same standard as Ash. Ash’s journey was all about reaching the top. And outside of stopping the Explorers and finding the legendary Pokémon, Liko, Roy and Dot’s journeys just don’t have that same energy. Their goals are different.

Ash’s Gym Battles were to lead up to the Pokémon League. All Liko and her gang is doing is just getting to master their gimmick.

@@0axis771 well hold up to both you and OP. Do you all actually remember Ash’s very first gym battle? The one where Brock mopped the floor with him and he didn’t even do any damage with Pikachu or Pidgeotto? Cuz I do. The reason for battling is different sure but that’s fine. It’s a NEW series. The fights are still gym leader worthy. Liko never fought a gym leader and their tactics solo before but she came up with a good counter strategy for Teddiursa’s sweet scent like Ash would have. She then teraztilized her Pokémon and would’ve won but she was at a strong type disadvantage and her Pokémon was already weakened. She got much further than Ash on his first attempt ( she does have more experience as a trainer than him but still Gym leaders are much further ahead than her or Ash was at this point)

Liko did pretty well for her first solo match against a gym leader. It took a min but she successfully analyzed how to beat their tactics and landed two strong hits when she couldn’t before. Katy being strong against her Pokémon type was bad luck but that happens. Ash also lost his first gym battle and technically so did Roy. Which is why I think Roy will win his battle with Brassius thus motivating Liko and Flor to get stronger.

Why is Katy so scary in the anime, she kinda reminds me of Unohana from Bleach where she’d be so passive yet in her facial expression there’s this hidden scary thing about it even though she’s just smiling

The fact people didnt know that charm harsly fell your oppenent attack stats by 2 stages is make me unconfomtable, this is why charm is dangerous, liko could win if not because of that charm, but that what i like the detail of pokemon battle, no plot armor to win

I think my favorite thing about this fight or the episode in general, is that the gym leaders are portrayed as less than just obstacles to overcome, but teachers for the trainers to learn different things. Im not certain if any of them will actually try the Gym Challenge, but I hope there might be a possibility

Im pretty sure they will adapt the 3 main storylines to the anime Liko will have the Gym Challenge storyline Roy will have the Path of Legends storyline Dot will have the Starfall Street storyline

Well it’s not a gym badge it’s more that she passed her assessment of using terastalization. She proved that she can use it effectively as a new trainer. She didn’t have to necessarily win.

No this is not them doing a sport like ash where you have to win to make it to the top all 3 kids are in a school program learning how to use Tera orbs and this was liko first test and she passed just like roy is getting tested by brassius and dot is getting tested by iono. If I’m right in how they will split the GL between the 3 they will each get 1 more GL to themselves then the remaining 2 GL will battle all 3 of them for there final exams. Who I think will be there next solo GL is liko- tulip she wants to know Pokémon emotions better and that is what tulip is about, roy- ryme she is a singer and ghost type user same as fuecoco final evo, dot- kofu no real reason he is just left but it could help dot get out of her shell by doing a auction to get a ingredient she knows Murdock would love or possibly cook him something, the last 2 that will battle all 3 kids is grusha and Larry.

Well yeah that’s true. I think Roy will beat Brassius because he’s already fought and lost to him before. This will probably motivate Liko more as the two have a whole rival best friends thing going on. Ash also lost his first gym battle ( so did Roy) so this loss for Liko isnt technically out of place. It’s all an assessment

This is a point in the anime where they can start getting creative with how they show the growth of the characters. Aside from the Explorers though, Liko and Roy have shown very little success with regards to their trainer against any skilled opponents. And unfortunately as stated earlier, Liko and Roy lost back to back against the gym leaders, so hopefully this trend doesn't continue them just losing to every gym leader just to prove that they have further to go to be competent trainers.

Liko only needed to successfully Terastilize and show her teamwork with Floragato to pass the test. Katy even says that the battle should have stopped there, but she wanted to continue so she could show Liko her own Tera and give her more experience.
