The awesome part about this song is that he is comparing his life in the first verse to Russell Westbrook's life in the second verse. Russell worked on his family farm but once he touched the basketball he fell in love with the sport and decided to go after his dream of being a pro. Lil Dicky on the other hand was doing the normal path of life of getting a degree and then getting a normal job. But, once he started to rap for the first time he decided that music was what he really wanted to do. They both stumbled upon their dream after coming from average lives and made successful careers out of it. The story is so well done.

Hes making an analogy, saying what if russel lived on a farm and never knew about basketball, then tried it and realized it was his calling, after he was well set to have a good life. which is what dicky did. he had a job that made good money but then he tried rapping and found out that was his calling

I love this analogy. he's comparing Russell to himself, in the sense that in that alternate reality Russell began as a farmer, as did lil dicky starting as a comedian, and then Russell stumbled upon basketball as lil dicky stumbled upon rap, and figured out that he was gifted at it and people started recognizing it more than his previous path. and when he talks about what would happen if he took a different path instead of the one that Russell took that led him to a basketball court. if you only HEAR the song, you notice that his flow slaps and that his gifted at projecting rap, but if you actually LISTEN to what he says, you notice that he's good at projecting rap AND making insane analogies and he can completely blow your mind if you pay attention

Starting at 6:47 with the word "honesty", LD rhymes 28 (TWENTY EIGHT) syllables, if my count is correct. On top of that, they aren't back to back - several have a bar or two in between the main layer of rhyme... Anyone who has had anything to do with musical production knows about the layers of sound that go into a finished track. You've got your drum layer, your hi-hat, your bass, your rhythm, your pauses & breaks, etc. Dickie does the same thing, but with his words... I'm not aware of another lyricist on this level. There are plenty of great ones out there, I just doon't know if they can go like this.
