It’s not about how much compression is used it’s about how you compress it, you can have a “squashed” signal and it still sounds amazing but if you set up the compressor wrong it will always sound bad - Wise words from Alex tumay (young thugs engineer) [im paraphrasing bit the point still remains]
@Ionknw5 жыл бұрын
Otis Grove ofc you wont do any crazy thresholds i think its pretty obvious, mixing is little tweaks here and there. So that being said, if you use normal ratio it really cant sound bad. fast attack brings the vocals more upfront, slow attack makes them more airy, and release for the glue.

The Slate Virtual Mix Rack is my go to these days! Also worth mentioning for parallel compression you don't want the meter completely pinned like that. Its counter intuitive to what you're actually trying to do. Don't get me wrong, you're shooting for heavy compression for sure but just not completely brick wall limited basically lol 6-10db gain reduction is ideal if its completely pinned then you are squashing every bit of life out of it. How parallel compression gets its character is by having a slower attack on it than the dry file to where the transients still shine through before it kicks in so it will first add the transient with your regular buss transient (which when frequencies add together the "amplify") giving you a nice sharper sounding attack/transient and then secondly the compressor will add "sustain" to the rest of the waveform bringing the body back up to a constant and consistent level. Giving body back to any parts that would have other wise tapered off. But there should be transient untouched, certain parts of the waveform unaffected and just adding together with the dry signal, and then there should be the quieter parts getting more body. This will give you an extremely pleasant parallel compression with really unique attitude instead of it just sounding all the same with no push and pull to it. Hope this helps!!

Is the Hook and Verse Only recorded once and made bigger with effects and the Waves Double's etc, or Did he recorded the Hook 3 Times (1 mono,1 left panned, 1 right panned) and the Verse 3 Times?i When I read about Rap Vocal Mixing in Germany a lot of engineers say Doubles with different records are necessary , but i've Seen a lot of International Producers who just had one Recording file and made that big. Is it that easy on the Modern Sound? Would be awesome if anyone Could answer this
@k9nevienna5 жыл бұрын
yeah there are things that are done different in mixing. in germany/most of europe its standard to record more takes but in america they tend to do it in the mix but yeah you can achieve this type of effect with the Haas Effect with a delay (watch a video about it its awesome) Or you can use Waves Doubler or Waves Stereo Imager. Also, to achieve a more stereo feel you can use Mid side eqs.
@LitKidBeats5 жыл бұрын
@@k9nevienna Thank you, yeah I already using the Haas Delay Effect and modified Doubles but I asked myself whats the "right" way how the Professionals do it 😅 So In America they use 1 mono Verse and 1 left and 1 right duplicate plus more duplicated and modified Doubles to get it that fat?
