Would be nice to see more vocal chain and the raw mix comparison etc. instead of getting 80% interview. The title suggests an actual breakdown of these mixes and that's not the case.

He mentioned that he doesn't like having a lot of options, he just goes with feeling. Vocal chains will not help you. Everyone makes their own to get what they want out of a mix. My vocal chain isn't going to work for you. It's going to be hard for you to learn if you just want to see what everyone else is doing. Every song is different, and not everyone can afford the gear or setups they use.

@@MatAnd7 It's pointless though. The equipment they used to record is where most of the sonics and character is coming from. You can use the same plugins but it will not help. You could even use the same gear and settings they recorded with and it'll still sound different. You all can learn the hard way though. Keep trying to copy others. The biggest difference will always be that they strived to get better and be unique while you just want to copy their hard work and style.smh

The definition of parallel processing treatment is a second audio signal running alongside, or "parallel" with an original sound to enhance and enlarge it in some way. You can "side chain" through the act of parallel processing. Just wanted to clarify any mis information. There are many videos on youtube showing you how side chain using parallel processing

I think he also meant to say around 28:00 that when you sidechain a kick w/ the rest of a song as in EDM you can parallel process to bring out that hit more or a certain frequency of the kick that you want to be present while you're sidechaining. I never thought of parallel processing for that reason but it's fucking genius.

At over 6000 audio studio projects since the early 80s, and quite a few seminars I have conducted, and performing live for a living, there is a thing or two you could probably learn. And I can clearly tell you, he described parallel processing and side chaining wrong, regardless how hard you hit your head on the wall. Grammy, or gold record, famous, or Nobel Prize or not.

D-One it sounded like he was using side chaining as an example and just got caught up in referring to it as parallel processing. He refers to to parallel processing a little more accurately when referring to mix busses, it seems that he prefers not to use parallel processing on individual tracks otherwise.

He said that the compressor and reverb was already on there when he got it and he didn't mess with it. A lot of his "mix breakdowns" are like this. I get the feeling (and he basically admitted it) that he doesn't really know exactly what he's doing.. he just turns knobs until it sounds good.
