On today’s episode The Champs chop it up with one of the most influential artists in the game, the legend, Lil Wayne. An artist with no ceilings Wayne shares with us the importance of never being afraid to be yourself.
Having a career that spans four decades Lil Wayne has been a master at reinventing himself. From being the youngest Hot Boy on Cash Money Records, Mixtape Weezy grew as a lyricist and became a rock star, forever standing tall among his peers, the GOATS. The Young Money Executive is responsible for putting on stars such as Nicki Minaj and Drake, just to name a few.
In this episode Lil Wayne shares a lot of stories that span from the early days of Cash Money Records, to recording his classic mixtapes. Wayne shares with us how he evolved as an artist and how he transitioned to a CEO. Weezy drops gems, revealing how he came up with “BLING, BLING” and revealing who his all time favorite artist is.
While we discuss topics such as sports and skateboarding, Lil Wayne finds out for the first time who co-signed his feature on Destiny’s Child “Solider” Remix. As a featured artist Lil Wayne has been featured in almost 200 songs, Weezy reflects back on some of those hit records and shares how important it was to build relationships with these artists over the years.

From 07-10 those four years bruh would have did a billion streams a year on average real talk! Would've killed all the stream records for rappers including Drake 🐐🐐🐐

But Wayne can go tour like crazy, pack out a show, and perform those songs. Touring is where artists make a majority of their money, they are splitting the pie a few ways with labels/producers/engineers on an album. Wayne hasn't necessarily been paid directly, but few can go do a tour with as many songs as he has. Curren$y does the same thing. The music is "free" but he can do shows forever because of how much he puts out and the fan base respects that. He gets paid.

It's a shame in amerikka only 1 brand of facets, seems to come with these. sad maign. I ain't utting mah dreads, for jobs and society and mexicans to see how big my fuckin' heart is. get it ? capischi my niggo. and you are correct in your summation but it misses this great point. Waqynea heart 1000 felt dude. and I bt many many black folk like him, currently misunderstood. but sooner or later their expedriences may harden them !!! we all need towise ujp qaw a people aqns speak abject to our racism taught by this amerikka !!! misunderstood hearts of all colors sand genders and sects depend on it.

anime yukihira I agree but to compare him to Michael Jackson is just disrespectful. Michael actually had talent that we won’t see ever again in the next 50years. His dancing and music was off the charts. Lil Wayne hasn’t made a hit in 5 years. Every Michael Jackson song was a hit. They all broke records.

I'm a die hard Wayne fan , I could talk about him all day . I listen to Wayne literally every day . I have other artists on my phone but wayne is always my go to guy . I was in 6th grade when the Carter 3 came out , I remember being in love w pop bottles and leather so soft as well . I remember wanting to be just like him . The times that I've seen him live were huge moments in my life . Just shows how impactful someone's music can be . when I put his music on I go into a whole other world , he traps me in w his voice and makes me forget and feel what I'm going through . Truly , the GOAT .

@bobbu roberts i totally understand where you're coming from , I'm in recovery and I'm in Narcotics Anonymous so my higher power is and always will be God. But growing up I didn't have my dad or mom so on my bad days , being lonely and having no one to talk to I would put on some Lil Wayne and that would be the only voice I'd hear so his music helped me out a lot . I idolize him as in I want to work and do music so i could be that for another kid some day . When I met him in Phoenix I told him about it and he gave me huge words of encouragement . But yeah I understand where you're coming from , I just fell in love with his art and work ethic .

@bobbu roberts legit the worst advice you can give to someone brother. What if someone told Kobe or Bron not to idolize MJ? Other than the higher power, he can idolize who he pleases. Not everyone has a relationship with their father. He may want to gain success, work hard, be a great dad, or maybe make it in rap, the same way Wayne has. All about people's own personal experience and feelings my guy.

I truly appreciate the fact that Wayne said "Thank you" or something similar for appreciation every time the guy brought him something...you got these "street dudes" trying to be Wayne...but they're not paying full attention...saying Thank you doesn't make you less of a "thug" or a man...

Wayne so cool. How could you not like him as a person. Humble and gracious but aware of his greatness and longevity. Salute for this Drink Champs. I'm only 20 mins in but glad Nore isn't cutting him off and asking " Are you petty?!! Cause I'm petty!" Then again.. I'm only 20 mins in, lol, could start once the drinks start flowing lol.
