She needs him to introduce a recorded interview and the subject of that recording. The only way that gets light in the courtroom is if he verifies it’s him and that he said what he said. He knows what he’s doing, and he’s a genius. I dont know how ATL law operates but in my country the stand is where those statements are supposed to be repeated for the record and affirmation that the statements are true. Him saying he doesnt recall, unless they declare him a hostile witness, I dont see this working in State's favour coz this is ammunition for the defence. When she goes back to question him about what he said to detectives, he sticks with what he said the whole testimony. I didn't think I would believe a word he said, but I find myself believing him in this.
