Young Thug’s Lawyer Thrown in Jail by Judge in RICO Trial

Judge Ural Granville threatened to place Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, in custody for contempt of court after the two argued about a private meeting and email. A courtroom deputy approached Steel multiple times with handcuffs but backed off when the state began arguing its points on the matter. Steel was taken into custody after leaving the courtroom. He then asked the judge if he could serve his time with Young Thug in the rapper’s jail cell so they could work on the case. Young Thug is currently on trial for multiple RICO charges.

The entire nation needs to see how out of control this judge is. The judge keeps interrupting the lawyer getting the law onto the record. The judge never should have had that meeting; *never* should have happened. Then, the accusation of eavesdropping!!! This judge is acting as if he does not know the law. This is solid grounds for an appeal. This was utterly unethical. This would be a real issue for any lawyer and any ethical judge. It looks like collusion between the prosecution and the judge. Notice, while the prosecution is speaking the judge doesn't interrupt. The prosecution is allowed to put their statements on the record but the defense is not allowed. Wow. This is unbelievable. Steel stood his ground. I wish I was able to afford a lawyer like that, should I ever need one!

As a person who was a court clerk many years ago, I stopped trusting judges, police and many within the court system because they are so wrong. This judge needs to have his attorney card removed. He's upset because someone has exposed his wrong. 😢

If the defense had an ex parte meeting with a witness without notifying the court they’d be held in contempt and reported to the bar.

The judge should have recessed, had the transcript and the recording of the private meeting hand delivered to all defendants attorneys. If Mr. Steel’s client received the information about the secret meeting and told his attorney then it is Mr. Steele’s JOB to maintain the attorney client privilege. Mr. Steele is right ,the judge is wrong in holding him in contempt.

@kimberlybates27 According to Mr. Steele's attorney, Ms. Merchant it could be, however, would definitely be an appeals issue if Mr. Steele is unable to properly defend his client. Most attorneys work on weekends during trials and need access to the files, etc. If Mr. Steele is in jail on weekends he would be unable to properly prepare for testimony during the week.

The witness was having a medical problem the judge thought needed inquiry. Was the witness feeling too ill to provide accurate recollection at this time.
