It's a specific attack pattern you have to use in order to keep stunning the ape. If you attack too many times in a row on most enemies, it resets the stagger hit count. With Ape, you can cheese the crap out of it if you space and time your attacks correctly.

Awesome run man! Regarding Yashariku's Sugar in a no-damage run, wouldn't it technically NOT be damage as your max gets cut in half? Or does the game code actually calculate it as damage for some reason?

Personally I agree with you that it shouldn't count, but most people think otherwise, and the "official" no damage rules think otherwise as well.

I mean, if I were coding the game, I would probably set the new max health to 1/2 player's normal max (for the duration) and the player's health (at the time) equal to whatever the new max health is. Then, just store that value so when the duration ends and the effect wears off, the player's health remains the same as it was during the effect's duration. Nowhere did damage happen, so if it was coded that way, no, Yashiriku's shouldn't count as damage taken. However, I would bet because of chip damage, it would be tougher to verify no damage if the bar were to be cut in half than if it were to remain totally full. If the player takes chip damage from a full bar, it's much easier to see that than if they took chip damage from a bar that's half depleted, and the mistake can easily be fixed by a quick gourd drink. I can see ways to cheat a no hit run with Yashiriku's. That's has to be why they don't allow it regardless of damage actually being taken by using the sugar or not. Of course, the runner likely would still be caught in the act but for ease of verification it's just easier to say no Yashiriku's on no hit.

Been working on a no hit run but couldn't figure out how to get to poison room without taking damage through that shaft you fall through, completely forgot about the back way through the serpent cave, so thank you! Also you should give up kuros charm for future runs to prevent block/parry skepticism.

Did you mean 38:40 instead? The attack that almost got Aggy hit? At 38:52 Ishin is doing a thrust attack and I don't see any blocks instead of deflects. And if you mean 38:40 then no, it was a deflect because otherwise Aggy would have gotten his guard broken with the constant full posture bar.
