I find the writing here interesting, Victoria being very protective over Bertie, Albert being the high expectations parent. (In fact both Albert and Victoria were said to be equally hard on Bertie about his education). It will be interesting (if the show goes that far) to see how Victoria’s view of Bertie will change, in his adult and military career. Considering Victoria did blame Albert’s death on Bertie and she never did recover from it and never saw Bertie the same way. It would be interesting to see how Daisy the creator would write that.

well Victoria loved Bertie. Albert suggested that Victoria distance herself to Bertie thinking he will mature and responsible if He lacks motherly love and focus only on his studies... but it backfired... on the other hand Bertie has alot of good qualities and ask a lot to learn... He did good in oxford... but for Victoria and Albert, it wasn't enough...

I feel for Albert in this series. You can see he is dealing with more issues than Victoria wishes to acknowledge. He actes like he's older than he is and has the stresses of 6-7 kids to educate, a mentally incapable son, juggling projects and wants to do so much for the country industry-wise. His love for Victoria is changing and Victoria wants everything to remain the same. He has always had the most calm way of dealing with anger, whereas Victoria likes to get hers out through violence. I feel sorry for him, that his first trip to Osbourne house is so tense and ruined not only by the stress to educate his children there but also by his wife the whole time complaining and wanting to leave. I get there are pressing issues in London, but a short holiday just as a family is all they need and yet she won't give in. I also thought Victoria would be the more stern parent, I get Albert wants his son to learn and dyslexia was not known then, however his character at the moment reminds me of prince Phillip in 'the Crown' and his strictness towards Charles. Only I'd expect much worse from Victoria. This is a very good look into a stage of marriage which Victoria is not at yet, but Albert is. Nearly 10 years in, things have had to change.

In my opinion they don’t portray it here well enough (but it’s hard if you don’t mention it, because it didn’t exist yet), but apparently Victoria had, if I remember correctly, postnatal depression. Which I am guessing, they weren’t able to give a name back then… Or weren’t able to help, idk. But that might have partly something to do with her behavior! Also the child might not be mentally incapabel, but perhaps has dyslexia/ dyscalculie, etc., but dyslexia was for instance discovered in 1881 and Bertie was born in 1841. I am trying to add to your story btw, that there might be some issues, we don’t know about, not saying that what you said was wrong.

OK, here's my issue. I know Victoria can be hot headed and temperamental at times and needs someone to keep her grounded. But dammit Albert, this woman told you she did not care if you were noble blooded or a bastard she would love you the same! You cannot tell her in front of everyone that she doesn't deserve respect, you just don't do that! Not that she's perfect, there are many things she's got wrong, but someone needs to show some leadership, otherwise this will just go around in a vicious cycle.

This show has mixed up the parenting styles of Albert and Victoria. Victoria was a distant and harsh parent, so much so, that her eldest, princess Victoria ran away by marrying a distant Prince. Albert was attentive and kind, all 9 children were very close to their father, who was strict but extremely loving. In many letters, Albert asks Victoria to be kinder to the kids, especially Berty, who became king Edward. He and his mother had a bad relationship, which got worse after Albert's death. Albert got sick after a visit to the adult Berty to have a talk with him, after learning that Berty slept with a woman, and was no longer pure. Premarital sex was a huge deal back then, especially for the crown Prince.

I think Victoria and her sister actually had a cordial relationship and this angle is manufactured by the show creators. I have read that somewhere.

In reality tlhe showed evidence of this as well. Sadly it wasnt really studied in his time so his tutors brushed it off as him being dumb. Thus told his parents such

@@shimaass32 Sadly, Bertie had a rough childhood. His parents tried to understand him but...couldn't. Everything they did worked for their other 8 children but it never worked for him no matter what Albert tried. He tried to soft approach, the disciplinary, and then giving him space. He just had a learning disability that no one understood in the 1840s. Nit only did Bertie have learning issues but he woukd lash out and have horrible tantrums. Often bullying the younger siblings. In time it created a rift between father and son. They did spend time together, however. But, Albert and Bertie did make up in November of 1861 just weeks before the elder passed away. I do find it interesting they have Victoria and Bertie so close in the series. Kinda curious how they write it later on

I cannot make them out by myself exactly. I agree with wild wind concerning the excellent performances of V&A as well as Lord Palmerstone, but, on the contrary, find the hole storyline so well done and interesting, too.
