We are Rocky and Kimball, husbands of 25 years who love to explore the world around us and produce a fun travel vlog each week.
Come explore with us as we wander through the cobblestone streets, visit iconic landmarks, and discover hidden gems in one of our favorite cities. Not to mention the lovely Weiner dog, Jeff, with different colored eyes.
Our journey begins in the AirBnb where Kimball appears to have some SERIOUS problems in the bathroom. And did he wash he hands? We may never know. Next, we move on to Lille Old Town Center, where we visit the stunning historic Opera De Lille, take a peek at the central train station and marvel at the striking clock tower that Kimball is STILL convinced is a Zara Home....We'll let you be the judge.
After I was nearly swallowed by a treacherous playground, we take to the quaint cobblestone shopping streets of Passage Des Arts and Rue De La Monnaie to the unrivalled Meert Patisserie, this city is oozing with charm. We also give you a tour of a stunning church that took over 500 years to build (come see what the fuss is about) and a NOT so stunning church...You really have to see it to believe it...And let us know how YOU feel about it in the comments, LOL.
And let's not forget our unique dining experience in a plant shop/cafe. Will I ever find out who flipped me off in the restroom? Will Kimball get past his gag reflex and finish his meal? Only one way to find out!
And definitely don't miss the remarkable La Vielle Bourse second hand book market where we observe exhausted men playing chess, stunning vintage books and beautiful posters. There really isn't another book market quite like it.

I love Lille. Was there again on holiday in late May 2024. Its just over an hour by train from London.... takes me longer to get to London from my home than it does to get from London to Lille

The ride/attraction is called a *"Rupsbaan"* or *"Rups"* in short or the *caterpillar* in English. They were common in traveling fares (Kermis) or Carnaval for the American readers. [Carnaval in Dutch is like 'Mardi Gras' or 'festivals of fools' in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.] It was first manufactured in 1925, basically its a *"lover's ride"* if you want it to be. The carts go round on the "wave" track, the speed will make the people in the cart squish together. The cloth goes over, and people outside don't know what the people inside the cart are doing. When the cloth goes over, it becomes more apparent why it is called a caterpillar, and there will be this tassle (kwast) placed above the carts, the cloth goes off and whom ever catches/grabs the (kwast) tassle wins a price, if not a plush it will be a free ride. Keep in mind this attraction compared to those we have now days is very, very tame. Also the cloth will be over the cart just a short period of time, so couples can't get too heated.

We’re on it! That was released a year before I was born. I’ve actually seen the trailer for this film and I don’t know why I never watched it. Is there a specific reason you thought about that movie and us? Were there popping scenes and spinach stuck in peoples teeth in that also? 🤣

Well, I'm 'slightly' older than the both of you, and when that movie came out it was a return to my normality, you see, the craze of blockbuster movies, like Jaws, Star Wars, Trek, or Gate never appealed to me. Thus when Brooks released that one it was like, 'thank whatever deity you pray, finally something funny from the USA'. And yeah, come May most countries would say 'you are retired' for me that final years is next year. Retirement is 67½ in NL. 😢

I KNOW! We’re awful at the pronunciation 🤣 I studied French for 6 months solid a few years ago and I always sounded like a fool trying to speak with the proper accent. Most of it left but I hope to pick it back up again. But honestly, I feel like I would need to live in a place to really take it in. Thanks for chatting with us.
