I'd really like to see some way that Canadians could demand an election even if it is before the next scheduled election and even if the governing party is being propped up by opposition parties. There would need to be safeguards to make sure a LOT of people throughout the country were really unhappy, not just a few malcontents in one corner of the country, otherwise it could be easily abused. Basically, it would be a vote of non-confidence by the Canadian people rather than by Parliament. I'd love to see Pierre Poilievre implement something like this, ideally in the form of a Constitutional Amendment, when he becomes Prime Minister. Then we'd never be at the mercy of someone like Jagmeet Singh and his hypocrisy again.

The problem with electing the senate, is that it would likely be the same party as the main governing party, so would in fact be worse. The point of the senate is that it can reject bad bills that pass through the house of commons. If the same party runs the senate, it would 100% of the time pass. With the appointed senate, there is a delay before the party running the senate changes. You could have an offset election, two years later, but since we often have minority governments that don't last the full four year, they could end up at or near the same time. The solution. Term limits on an appointed senate. Or, each province and territory elects their federal senators during their provincial election. That is the solution that I like the most.
