Tom, the Harper Conservatives did not prorogue HOC for new leadership, which is not an equal comparison. Meanwhile, the Liberals pick a new interim leader or Trudeau to stay until they do. The opposition parties can vote non confidence and an election can be called before October 2025

Harper Prorogued parliament in 2008 to prevent a non-confident vote because the Libs, NDP and Bloc were going to form an actual coalition (not simply a Supply and Confident agreement like in 2022 but a full on coalition government) to take control. IF the Libs do prorogue now it's the exact same thing. Preventing parliament from reconvening to get more time to prepare. In Harper's case the only reason he didn't need to resign was because the coalition ended up falling through during the prorogation because the Liberals got a new leader during that time who didn't want to be as closely associated to the NDP. Keep in mind, I'm not trying to defend Trudeau here if he does prorogue parliament. No party should be using a mechanism like this for personal gain and to maintain power/avoid accountability (something Harper also used Prorogation for in 2009). But you need to remove your Partisan Glasses if you don't realize that the two scenarios would be the exact same thing and are an equal comparison.

Actually, the CPP is completely inaccessible to any government and it was set up like that intentionally. On the other hand, Alberta wants to take part of the CPP because the Alberta government has access to and is able to direct where funds are invested/spent and they want to use it to support the oil industry as banks are backing away from oil exploration projects. Mark Carney could not touch the CPP.
