Lillie Cycad Reserve | Conservation

In today's video, we join EcoTraining Instructor Steve Baillie and our Professional Field Guide students on a visit to the Lillie Cycad Reserve in Selati. After an enduring hike, breathtaking scenery and the majestic prehistoric Lillie cycads unfold. The wild is the only place in the world where this delicate and rare cycad occurs naturally.
These cycads are listed under CITES Appendix I, which is critically endangered. Owing to the critically endangered status of this species, the Selati Lillie Reserve is patrolled by an armed anti-poaching unit whose sole mandate is to protect these ancient beauties. The mere presence of EcoTraining and our students adds to the protection of these rare plants.
