Going through the comments, and I am so relieved that I wasn't the only one who raised an eyebrow at this. Maybe it's because this is The National, and so things are on the more formal end, but the whole interview just felt...off. Like the tone was weird. Also, I felt like the interviewer was being seriously passive-aggressive? I dunno. Either way, Lilly handled it with grace as per usual ^_^

This woman is superwoman without doubt. Love her for how inclusive and inspirational she is. She smashed the white supremacy out loud in this video for probably how inferior the interviewer feels in front of this super girl who is not white but so popular, inclusive and working for a cause. I actually thought the interviewer did a good job for the audience that this content is directed at, e.g. an audience that is not familiar with youtube yet and has certain biases towards it. As such, the interviewer did ask some "ignorant" questions, but I think that was on purpose, because what is obvious to team internet is not obvious to everybody. And I don't think she was condescending. She was nice and a bit reserved as most people are when you are talking to someone and get to know someone whose world you're not familiar with yet.

I feel like Wendy Mesley didn't prepare for the interview properly - either that, or she doesn't really respect Lilly as a digital talent. Baby boomers (like Mesley) might not really understand why someone doesn't aim for the small screen (TV), and they don't really take youtubers seriously. Mesley was repetitive, and she said that Lilly "dropped out" of university, and that was not true. Lilly was actually applying for her Masters when she started the youtube thing. That said, I really don't like how Lilly portrays South Asian parents. I worry that white kids watching her channel will think that brown people are all like that, and they won't really know that this is an exaggeration. Lilly's youtube parents speak with heavy accents, they are misogynistic and ignorant and EXTREMELY stereotypical, and I worry that white people will watch Lilly's channel and be like, "hahaha, look at all the funny brown people", and will not get her message.
