I think any Indian ( South Asian rather) parent would find it really hard to grasp the concept of depression... during their days, it was poverty, no food, no luxuries... just maintain the family and get money.. no one even had the vague idea that depression existed... they just called it a result of not having stuff... Many families lived in joint setups with 20 or 30 ppl and often the men were out all day and the women were overworked in managing the house and finances that they just didnt care... that has led to this whole idea that depression can be reversed/cured by literally having stuff
