I work at a grocery store and right now they have me disinfecting carts after customers use them. We have the outside cart return set up so that disinfected carts go on one side and the carts I am cleaning stay by me. By themselves. Next to my Lysol. So this man walks up with his little girl (maybe 2) and asks: Can I have a cart? I proceed to explain that the disinfected carts are on the other side of the building (mind you this is perhaps 7 feet away). He replies: Can I have an infected cart?. Me: The disinfected carts are over there. Him: I know, can I have an infected cart? His daughter: **stares** My mind: Is he telling a very bad dad joke? Me: No. Him: oh. He genuinely looked disappointed that I would not give him an 'infected' cart....I believe he had reached the 'Let's go lick a doorknob' sentiment. As for me, I am still bewildered at that interaction.
