i am in NC and have been fly fishing for 7 + years now. There are a lot of great delayed harvest and other supported trout streams in NC mountains. My best days fishing have been on the Watauga River, Wilson Creek, Mitchell River, Roaring River/Stone Mountain and N.Toe River in downtown Spruce Pine! This year NC trout spring stocking was delayed into June & July and the trout were apparently immediately harvested since it was open harvest then. My favorite delayed harvest stream currently is Wilson Creek. There are a lot of good access points where trout are usually plentiful. My best day there recently was 15, a mix of brown, brook and rainbow taking a purple May fly or a Wooly Bugger and Copper John nymph rig. Right now Watauga, Roaring River and Wilson creek are popular for day visitors enjoying sunbathing, swimming and picnicking, so trout fishing is very limited. Enjoying your fishing videos!

Hi Heidi, you are still lighting fires in many guys' hearts! I like a little burn on my barbeque too. The grill had a cover, good for indirect cooking. Could have roasted some veggies. The jalopeño tastes different, roasted on the barbecue. You threw away beetle baity. Do you need a fishing licence for that type of trout fishing?

I'm a fly fisherman, so this video caught my attention. After watching half a dozen of your other videos, I just realized we would totally be best friends if we lived close to each other. I grew up just like you, hunting and fishing since I was a kid. All the other things you do I do as well, but not just that, it's how you go about doing things, just the overall vibe and how we feel about nature and the outdoors, even down to taste in food! Nature and the outdoors is my church, it's a stress relief, a place of peace, a life source for my soul. It is so rare to find like minded people, real ones, not the fake ones who only do it because they have a hidden agenda. Your videos are a breath of fresh air, I'm definitely subscribing. :) P.S., I know you make/sell lures, have you tried incorporating fly tying, they are really easy, you can buy a kit from Cabelas and start selling them in your online store. Just an idea. I have about 3k+ dry and wet flies, there's no such thing as too much gear in fishing! lol

FYI - you don’t need lighter fluid/fire starter with Matchlight charcoal. It’s got it built in. Starts up nicely!

You’re wearing my favorite beer on your t-shirt - Budweiser:) I love cabins, the country and outdoors. I especially love fishing. I just bought a new baitcaster rod and reel and need to learn how to set it up and cast properly with it first. I bought a Kastking Speed Demon Pro with 9:3:1 gears, very high speed for some top water bass and pike fishing. I bought some Whopper Plopper lures too. They have great reviews for big Bass, Pike and Muskie. You’re making me hungry again Heidi lol.

First fish was a creek Chub. They can get to be about 12 inches , and the males will get a pink head . You are literally about 40 miles from me , I live on the other side of Bristol from where you were .

FYI you are using Match Light Charcoal, no need for any type of light fluid/gel. Suggestion, ditch the Kingsford and get yourself Hardwood charcoal, burns hotter, cleaner, and gives a great flavor. Then you can use the gel to start it. Love your videos, keep it up!!!

That first fish was a Chub minnow. You’ll probably find lots of them in little creeks like that. They are great bait for float fishing for big Bass, Pike, Muskie and Walleye.

Hopper dropper pattern. Super effective. I love fishing that pattern this time of year in the Driftless area of Wisconsin. Absolutely crush monster browns on those patterns. Having fished a lot of that Smoky Mountain water, some of those streams have too much limestone content in them to hold trout, but move over one stream and there are tons of brook and brown trout.

That match lite charcoal is all right. But if you sprinkle a little vegetable oil over regular briquettes and start it with a piece of paper towel with some veg. oil on it. You won't get that taste of starter fluid.

It might be a chub. Pull out more line first so you can let it go further than repeat whipping back and forth. As long as other anglers are not around. Longer casts per swing. You rock,and keep the videos up.

Fish was a Creek Chub or Fallfish. Next time tie a knot to top fly and leave the tag end of the knot long, and use that as the dropper. Good times!!

Those are creek chubs. They can get to be pretty big. This time of year they’re out like crazy, they make trout fishing difficult unless you’re up at some much higher elevations.
