things i loved about this video: she didn't make any negative comments about her building skills she used whichever items she liked regardless of the pack or amount of packs in the build she didn't worry about the budget or making it base game (+ plant kit) only!! she tried playing with new color schemes and items she doesn't use very much ~ i'd love to see more videos like this, let yourself play the game how you want and build what makes you happy!!

She always says this about things then uses it pretty much ONLY in the video based on the DLC. So after this we likely will never see her use that wall shelf, which I actually really like because it's asymmetric.
@DoveJS
@DoveJS 2 жыл бұрын
@@Eventide215 Yeah, it's a cool item but it would be much easier to use if, like she said, they'd made it a customizable snap-to style item akin to the counters, cabinets, and couches. I don't think it's the asymmetry that was bothering her so much as the large size and V-shape which makes compositions with it more challenging. Of course, that would've been a lot harder to code with the diverse shapes (diagonals are a pain in the Sims) and if they'd put that into the kit it would've instantly become a Stuff Pack lol. Hopefully a benevolent CC-creator will attempt to make one for us!

Hallways are also a bit overkill in an apartment building with a hallway already. I like the open plan living where you walk into the living room. It's only in colder countries that entry ways are built (in Europe). So that there is a transition area where you take your jacket off etc before you enter the rest of the heated house.

Typically front doors open to an entryway, kitchen, living room, or split level decision (up or down the stairs).. I don't see why people would complain that it opens to the living room.. The living room isn't meant to be private or anything.

Seriously, most apartments I have lived in and visited open into the living room. Why are people up in arms over this? I have only seen entryways in houses, and even then a fair amount of small homes in particular open straight into the living room.

I live in Germany and even my tiniest shared flat had a small corridor and a living room that was divided by a curtain. Open floor plans just aren't really common here. My flat had a ca 40 square ft kitchen and a similar size corridor, maybe 60 square ft bathroom, and two bed rooms and one living room that were ca 100 square feet each. It really wasn't large but still divided into many small rooms. I think there is a cultural difference in how flats are set up between different counties. I have seen many small flats in my life. Only one did not have a corridor/entrance.

This has got to be my favorite build of yours. This is honestly the apartment of my dreams, lol. Home-y, a bit kitsch, and modern in a fun way. "Way too many packs" is irrelevant, you built something gorgeous. When I download this, I'll be swapping out the clock because the apple clock was so cute and really went well with the overall design. I get the balance of "is this too much or does it work" can be difficult but honestly, I think you can tell when something looks out of place and if you think an item looks good, own it and go with it! No shame in that! If people don't like it, they don't have to download it or they can replace it with something they think looks better.
@Eventide215
@Eventide215 2 жыл бұрын
I think that last part is something Simsie struggles with the most honestly. She seems to forget that people can always download her builds and edit them to their heart's content. No matter how accessible you make the house with pack limitations, it's not going to appease everyone. I love her creativity when she just lets loose and uses as many packs as she wants and as high of a budget as she wants. If people don't have a pack they can still download the house, it just won't have those items and they can easily replace it with something they like or thinks is better. I also really like the build, but in reality I can't stand apartments.. I'm a massive introvert and I need a detached house or else I feel like I have no privacy at all.. it's odd. The layout though is great just missing an office/gaming room for me lol.
@SilverLily
@SilverLily 2 жыл бұрын
@@Eventide215 Yes! Honestly, most times when I download a build from the gallery from anyone, I'm looking more for a floorplan I like than an entirely furnished lot. And even if I am looking for something more complete, editing it when I don't have all the packs is one of the simplest things, regardless of access to CC and other packs. True, I know there are plenty of people who want the exact build, and I won't fault them for that. But at the end of the day it's a game and it doesn't matter if everyone has the couch you want to use, because there's about 50 replacements. Besides, the gallery's filters for what packs are in the build are busted anyway so it's not like you can filter out the builds you can't download with everything in it. I get the "challenge" part of keeping it to the limited amount of base game (+ newest pack), but eventually it strains your creativity and the viewer's interests to their limits. And that's why I appreciate this build so much because she used so many packs and it turned out very different from her usual style and the result was adorable!

I love that you are focusing more on analyzing your own work in a constructive way rather than just saying that you are "such a bad builder", even though you very much are not. You clearly are making efforts to try to step out of your comfort zone and push what you are capable of creating, and that's always exciting to see! I think what you are trying to say around 9:30 is that you tend to focus too much on the theme you are going for and it causes the execution to feel underwhelming. As a game design student I know that this is the kind of stuff that formal art education helps you learn. You may want to check out some videos on basic design concepts (I would reccomend color theory, composition, and contrast to start) to help improve your knowledge of design theory. I think you know a lot of these things passively, from building so much and just having a baseline gut feeling of "this looks good" but learning design theory helps you communicate _why_ something looks good. As per the build: I think you definitely executed on your idea well and it doesn't feel like you went too hard on the theme. I think My favorite part of the build was the kitchen, those yellow cabinet *do* look really nice and I think the yellow does a good job of pairing with the greenery without it feeling too matchy-matchy. The exposed brick also did a good job of contrasting with the plants due to the redish tones.

@Eventide215
@Eventide215 2 жыл бұрын
It's also one of Brazil's biggest downfalls. The cities are so compact and so much is attached that one thing goes wrong and it can lead to massive chain reactions. It also doesn't save much in brick/cement, but does save in space at quite a cost in my opinion since I value my privacy and alone time.

Or just bring back the create-a-style from Sims 3.. just let us customize everything however we want. At the very least give us something similar to Paralives... something I absolutely love about Paralives is the way you'll be able to just drag things to the size you want and swap sides of things.. like if a desk has drawers on the left side you could swap it to the right.. There's so many objects in Sims 4 like that I'd love to be able to swap around or just slightly change the size of.

@@Eventide215 Just having the color wheel is enough; Create-a-Pattern was great but too laggy and decision-intense. I'm okay with set patterns as long as we can change the basic colors to our hearts content. But yeah, the amount of customization in Paralives is epic and I think a lot of furniture designs will go further because of that. It's an intense amount of coding and 3D modeling at set-up but then they won't need to make nearly as much furniture in the future!

I think the apartment looks great! I love the primary colours in combination with the brick and the plants. I think a big struggle in your builds is that you often use the same items. I get that especially a base game budget build is limited, but there's more items even in the base game that you could use. Also in landscaping, you often choose the same items, and make all the flowers the same colour. I'm also sure there's loads of people who like more toned down palets and minimalistic builds though, so don't feel pressured to change your style :)

I am not a huge plant person, but this is so cute I kinda wanna move in immediately. Also, while I don't mind that the apartment doesn't have a hallway, I am used to everything having one, small apartments included. Opening straight into the living room or kitchen just isn't something you normally do here and it's not because those rooms are "private", it's because we have seasons and there is no way we want to leave our winter coats or soggy boots and everything that comes with it in the living room/kitchen or drag them through the house to a mudroom. I see those a lot on housing shows and that is literally what most of the hallways here in Norway looks like.

Thank you, it looks very nice. And by the way: Here in Germany we ALLWAYS have an entrance hallway. Even the tiniest appartments! From all my lifetime I remember only one german small appartment without hallway. Might be a german thing...

I really like this set of apartments in my split legacy challenge save (I have 2 sims as the heir every generation because it's the only way I have an attention span for it ) but my favorite sim blaire (her dad was half alien so she's blue) lives in one of these apartments and I'm vibing with her apartment

I love Kayla and her builds, and this one is very cute and cozy. But is anyone else bugged out by the way the small apartaments have a dining table *and* a kitchen island with chairs? I mean, I've seen tons of real apartments that use only a kitchen island, so when you struggle to squeeze everything you need in a small apartment, this is one of the most obvious things to do, right?

I use the home decorator furniture in ALL my builds now, love it SO much! I only do sectionals in my living rooms now, it's the only way you can make matching furniture! I won't use anything else, except for bedrooms, bathrooms, and the kitchen.

Mine and my fiancé's apartment opens up into a hallway because of where it sits in the building so we've got an entryway into a small apartment. I guess it's more on how the apartment is situated rather than size. Then again, we live in a refurbished school that definitely defies all modern-day school requirements.

I don't think any of the houses I've ever lived in had an entry way... and very few of my friends' houses did. Only people with money and big houses lol. So I think Kayla is right, it's a small house thing. Yeah I'm going through in my head and every member of my family had or currently has front doors that open into either the living room or dining room.

An idea for you - do an octagon house. You can only build the shell of the house by placing the dafault octagon rooms. You can delete inside walls and make your own floorplan, but if you want to add space it must by by adding octagon. I'd do it myslef, but unfortunately don't have the game. Good luck if you decide to do it.
