Saying “it’s just kidney stones” breaks my heart a little bit. Those are known to be incredibly painful. Especially if you have multiple. I’ve worked in and around ERs as an EMT as well as ER tech. I thankfully haven’t had one myself but I’ve had a few cysts rupture and that was bad enough for me.

I've read accounts from women who've experienced childbirth and kidney stones and they said kidney stones were worse. They're super intense.
@BenchWench19 күн бұрын
@@saragarska6335 as a woman that has experienced both, I think they are very similar, but kidney stones are worse only bc you don't know when the pain is coming or if it'll stop any time soon. Contractions in labor are similar pain level but you can predict when they will come and *know* that it will eventually stop. I can also now say that having a gall bladder attack is also similar to kidney stone pain. I went to the ER thinking I was having another stone and it ended up being my gall bladder.

I think pain to the point of feeling like you're dying has surpassed the level of "only people with anxiety disorders would be worried about this". At least if it happens again, you'll have more of a sense of what it could be? Un-fun but treatable kidney stones?
@ellespoonies19 күн бұрын
I think part of it is also this separate anxiety of not wanting to be a bother to people for something that might not be that serious, which considering that’s literally their job is a bit of a silly fear that we all have, lol. We really do gaslight ourselves into believing everything is fine, especially when we’ve experienced / been diagnosed with similar symptoms in the past. It’s just so hard to realize how much you’re twisting your own perception of things until you have hindsight to look back with.
@star270519 күн бұрын
@@ellespoonies Super true! I had a similar experience, and I laid there thinking I was gonna die for an hour before I called myself an ambulance because I couldn't _stand._ And I live in Canada! My care was paid for!
@saragarska633519 күн бұрын
And also not all pain is equally anxious-making. In my experience, my instances of abdominal pain are more mentally distressing than things like joint or muscle pains. I think it's an instinct thing because that's where vital organs are. Definitely piles on to the anxiety for me at least.

As someone that had a kidney stone twice, I know it. I think what caused it for me was a combo of not enough water, stress, and holding it in when I needed to go. Nurse told me they don't really know for sure what causes them, but I haven't had another one since (over 10 years at this point). Ever since I started bringing water with me to college, and I drink at least 2-3 bottles/glasses worth of water everyday. Also make sure I go before bed so I don't wake up feeling like I'm going to burst lol. Frist time I was up all night because the pain was so bad and I wasn't properly taking the pain meds given to me because they were big and I was a 20 year old baby lol.
