Man, this scene explains why Lily's heart is literally beating out of her chest whenever she's in her zombie form, she died of shock. It's a light-hearted/goofy representation of a rather dark moment for Lily. Also it's kind of mind-blowing how hard it is for people to accept that Lily's a trans-girl. Not sure if anyone's seen the comments on twitter, but so many people are constantly saying things like "oh, don't you mean HE?".

Before i watched the episode, I was originally willing to buy that CR changed the subs to imply she was trans since they've done stuff like that before and a lot of people tend to label characters who aren't trans aand are just non-comforming like Asolfio as such, but after seeing the episode it's SUPER apparent and obvious that Lily is transgender and it baffles me that this was ever in dispute.

ELITEGundam I have to agree. It's actually kind of disturbing that a lot of people can't tell the difference between gender and sex. Please correct me if I'm wrong (It wouldn't be the first time), but sex is what you are biologically, and gender is what you are mentally, or how you identify yourself as (Example: like saying one is a woman trapped in a mans body and vic versa). But even with that, people are so focused on where Lily is a he or a she, they forget one vital and important thing that Kotaro points out (in his own eccentric way, of course); At the end of the day, she's still a person. Regardless of what others may think, Lily is just Lily. Nothing more, and nothing less.

Oh, shit. Not gonna lie, Lily's death is one of the saddest since it was not because of a shock from the hair. It was the accumulation of stress that exploded all on a moment. I don't care about Lily being trans. What matters more is her father did his best to support her when she realized something was off and had the guts to tell him. He could have told her so otherwise. He could have disowned her. But he didn't. His child's well-being was more important to him over some outdated thoughts he may have had. And it has been confirmed that it was just Lily and her father prior to the former's death by overwork. And he deeply regrets what happened to his only child, as it happened under his watch. The other girls have come round, and still see Lily as one of them, which is honestly what we need to see more often - acceptance of those who are part of the LGBT+ community. All of the girls make a good team. Word of God has confirmed Lily's gender identity. She was born male, and is MtF trans. She was simply too young to start the official process, as she had yet to hit puberty. Before anyone ever tries to say so otherwise, ask an actual trans person, and L-I-S-T-E-N. Listen to them. Whatever they have is an actual thing, and the least we can do is know when to shut up and when to talk. On a final note: Poor Lily. She had a promising life and career, and overwork just took its toll on her, since she was so young. I want to hug her too.

I think everyone is avoiding the huge problem here and focusing on an unnecessary detail while they don't see the huge elephant in the room: Lily's death was caused by labor exploitation, long shooting days , apparently days without sleep, distancing from the family and a stress situation was damaging Lily's health and a simple thing like hair could trigger a sudden death by heart attack. Whether Lily is a boy or a girl, a minor must not be subjected to such a large workload at that age.

It makes sense that Lily's death is represented in this way, why? Because it represents exactly Lily's world. How? Lily was a main star from a drama show, a soap opera and in that kind of TV shows, deaths scenes are shown in a overacted way. There are a lot of tropes or cliches here that appears normally in said dramas: over-acted gestures, a body falling in slow motion, someone dieing in the arms of someone, someone screaming the name of the deceased in a dramatic way and a freeze frame at the end... Just like Japanese dramas, American soap operas or Mexican and Latin American telenovelas do. Everything is told from Lily's point of view, not from a real standpoint, so it makes sense how it is shown in the episode.

I remember having very similar argument with my mom through my bedroom door over my leg hair and facial hair starting its development. I didn't die lmao, but I felt so stressed that at the time I thought I would. I'm 18 now, and although I do understand and respect why children are not usually allowed to medically transition, it's the only thing 12 year old me ever wanted. The representation that does exist matters, and shouldn’t be compared to “negative” representation, because you don’t know what was happening behind the scenes. This death scene, after all, is ridicolous. Dying over having grown hair, while traumatizing, it's a bit excessive. However, i also think that's what it makes it special. It's not a random death but it's one deeply rooted into the character, and it isn't less ridicolous that being run over while you go out of home or being struck by lightining in a concert. The portrayal of death as something ruthlessly ridicolous, especially for girls of young age, is something that really stuck me on this anime. Sometimes anime make deaths so over-the-top heroic or miserable, when sometimes is just dry, senseless doom. And then, instead of singing about glory or being the best, they sing about not letting down about your failures and bad luck. Damn i love this show. Also Lily is the most credible trans i have ever seen in a media - sometimes seeing a trans feel just "slapped there" while in Lily case is deeply rooted in her motivation and identity.

It makes sense that this death is represented in this way, why? Because it represents exactly Lily's world. How? Lily was a main star from a drama show, a soap opera and in that kind of TV shows, deaths scenes are shown in a overacted way. There are a lot of tropes or cliches that appears in said dramas, a body falling in slow motion, someone dieing in the arms of someone, someone screaming the name of the deceased in a dramatic way and a freeze frame at the end... Just like Japanese dramas, American soap operas or Mexican and Latin American telenovelas. Everything is told from Lily's point of view, so it makes sense how it is shown.

as a trans girl who just watched this episode in the anime, wow I am so shook how much this got to me. I wish I had been able to be myself like she does at her age, and I remember how scary puberty was for me but at least I had the cloak of boymoding to hide in. For her though she was already famous as a girl, so puberty carried a whole other set of issues for her and could have completely destroyed her image and well-being. The pressure of being a child star is bad enough without worrying about trans stuff on top of it. No children should be worked like that. If only she knew about puberty blockers and hormones maybe she wouldn’t have died. Sadly a common thing in our community. Protect Lily at all costs! Protect trans youth!! We usually know a lot more about ourselves at a much younger age than most people think. I remember feeling like a girl as young as 3 or 4, and I would dress up in princess dresses and such, but I didn’t know that it was possible for me to be one until puberty was well underway. I feel like my transition has turned out very well anyways but I know it could have been so much easier if I got to be in such medication way younger. This medicine is life saving and life changing for our people. It gives us a fighting chance to be ourselves. I hope everyone who supports and loves Lily extends that love to the community she’s a part of

A lot of supportive comments, but also a sad amount of negative and transphobic comments too. It seems like some people get upset that we’re just HAPPY that there’s some good lgbt representation in anime (which is pretty rare, especially good ones). And some just flat-out wont accept that she’s trans and go into full denial about it. It’s all this that’s pretty sobering and reminds me why representation is so necessary. And when you consider Japan’s pretty poor past with the LGBT community, I’m just happy someone like Lily can still exist.

It’s not hard to find good representation if you listen to word of mouth, and representation isn’t a Numbers game. The representation that does exist matters, and shouldn’t be compared to “negative” representation, because you don’t know what was happening behind the scenes. As somebody in the LGBT+ community, I’m happy with all sorts of visibility, and I’m not too bugged by “negative” portrayals, for various reasons. Even “bad” portrayals may have a silver lining, or lead to bigger and better things. There’s a place for everything in reality, and by extension, media.

As a trans person, I sympathize with Lily. She deserved to be loved as the real self. Occupational stress, strained relationship with her dad and gender identity issues raised her blood pressure through the roof. Puberty was just the final nail in the coffin.
