Lily van der Woodsen "I have loved you for a thousand years" (Seasons 1-6)

I've had requests for both, a Rufus/Lily video or just a Lily video to this song so this is sort of a compromise. I'm not really in the mood to make a happy Rufly video right now for obvious reasons so I just basically tried to show all the reasons why we've loved Lily. I did it in chronological order so that we can once again watch her character being destroyed. No but really, I do still love her and I can understand why she does what she does but I had hoped there would have been more character growth instead of making her do such crazy decisions starting at the end of season 5 and having her act so oblivious throughout the last season. It was pretty painful to watch...The last voiceover (from 3x05) is a friendly reminder of what they did to her character in the end. It is really sad to think that she could never be with the love of her life because it was too hard for her. She always forgave William everything, from poisoning her in season 3 to sleeping with her sister. Yet with Rufus she would try her hardest to find reasons why they could never work out. Ever since the wedding episode when she doesn't want to marry Rufus at first, to 3x21 when she's leaving with William only to stay because he has to leave town, which was never addressed again. All that could be seen as a hint to how things would end up, although I don't believe it was their plan at that point.
Kelly Rutherford called it an open ending, which it really wasn't (Stephanie Savage herself confirmed the endgames) but I appreciate her trying to make it look that way. I'm pretty sure the kiss in the finale was her idea, one that she decided to do once she realized how they were ending it. It would seem like something she would do lol. Love her;)

I still can't believe how it has ended... Rufly were THE couple of the show! They have them and Lily destroyed for Dan and Serena, who doesn't deserve this end. I can't believe it... But you've did a great job!

I will never get over Lily's ending. I feel like her character grew so much from season 1 to 4, but in season 5 everything went downhill. Someone pointed out that Cece dying was what changed her persona and I feel like that's like 5% of the reason and the other 95% was actually the writers who messed up her character so Dan and Serena could end up together (but I mean, they share a brother). What bothers me the most is not that she didn't end up with Rufus, it's just the mischaracterization at the end. During the first seasons she could be mistaken as 'cold', she doesn't seem to have a good relationship with her kids, but if you pay attention, even if her decisions are the worst, she always makes them thinking of what's best for Serena and Eric; she is wrong almost every time, but she has good intentions. What she says is true "everything I've ever done is for my children", and along the way she also takes in Jenny, Dan and Chuck as her own. She cares for them and loves them [Let me add that I feel like there was a very subtle favoritism for Chuck, who also seemed to love her more than her own kids]. But in the last seasons she just dishes Chuck and believes the man who FAKED HIS OWN DEATH over him. She ends things with Rufus for the meaningless thing, insults him, suddenly loves money more than anything and is stupid enough to forgive William after all the crap he did to her. She will always be my favorite character of the show, but it makes me so sad to remember how they screw her over when she had grown so much.

Oh god, this still makes me so emotional after all these years. I just recently finished Gossip Girl again and this is hands down the best Lily(xRufus) video I've ever seen. I really really hated what they did to her character in the end of season 5. In what world would Lily choose Bart, the man who faked his death, had her investigated and never had anything but coldness for her, over Rufus, her one true love. Because they didn't talk for weeks and had some fights? Like that never happened before... And I never understood the need for the Ivy/Rufus plot. Hurting Lily is one thing, but it seemed like such an out of character thing for Rufus to do. I had always hoped after Ivy was revealed yet again as nothing but a 'vile little interloper' (one of my favourite quotes tbh), they would find back to each other again instead of Lily going back to William, the man who messed with her health, had an affair with her sister and a relationship with Ivy, the latter of which was never even discussed openly on the show. I really, dearly hope in my heart that one day, there will be a Gossip Girl revival and Rufus and Lily will finally get the ending they deserve because I truly think that even with the ending we've got now, Lily would never stay with William. There would be something happening at one point that would break them apart again. And I truly hope, Rufus is there to catch her... A girl can dream, I suppose.

I'm so late but I totally agree with you. I couldn't say it better. She still is my favorite character, but I HATE what they did to her during the last two seasons, it was simply too out of character. She was never perfect and made a lot of mistakes, but choosing Bart over Rufus... WHAT? And then ending up with William???? He messed up with her heath, lied to her and her children, cheated on her with her sister and had a daughter... I know the writers did it so Serena and Dan could end up together, but still. We all know that Rufus and Lily were THE couple, they even had a son and far more chemistry than their kids. I really dont know why they build up all of the story about them being almost soulmates who loved each other since the where teenagers, bla, bla, bla; if at the end Lily choose her social status over the man she loved. I also like to think that if they ever do a reunion, they would show us Rufly back together, living their best life.

Lily is such an iconic character, a sophisticated, powerful matriarch but with an edge and a rock n roll past that makes her interesting. But I love Rufus and Lily as a couple even more, they never stopped being in love and they’re the cutest (specially in the first 2 seasons) I love this so much with the voiceovers. She’s so beautiful!

It breaks my heart that lily chose her social status over her true love. sometimes it actually makes me feel really let down and i feel a bit sick. im not sure why i feel this way and i have to keep reminding myself that its just a tv show but it just makes me truly sad and empty. Rufus showed her nothing but love and the writers did this big build up only to make lily choose bart, which is so out of character considering how happy Rufus made her. im not sure why it makes me sad because i can't even really relate to it and i know that its JUST A SHOW! but when i first watched it i felt really empty for basically a whole day and i couldn't stop thinking about it and how sad it was that they didn't get the happily ever after that they deserved. im happy for serena and dan but lily and rufus' relationship was a lot more mature and my favourite couple. u probably think im crazy and i think im crazy too because like i said its just a tv show. but i wish they did it in a different way because i feel rlly terrible right now and im not sure why.

The ending of your video broke my heart. It was perfect. I like that the audio wasn't necessarily in order so that it had the prophetic or reflective effect, particularly the last bit where (according to Stephanie Savage) she ends up with William, because she was too scared to open her heart to Rufus and truly love. I'm all for beautifully tragic endings, but they don't give Lily enough screen time or character development to show that she actually tried, and make this crushing blow meaningful. They didn't even give Lily the chance to be alone and grow as a person. Even worse, they put her right back at the beginning with her slimeball ex! It's so obvious that this character and relationship assassination was purely strategic. Even the actors saw right through it. At least your video is a perfect tribute to my favourite GG character, and one of my favourite characters of all time :)

Lily and Rufus are endgame. their relationship was tested by time and society again and again, yet they got married. Rufus never went for anyone other than lily and his ex-wife Alison, But they were absolutely meant to be. they grew with time, made mistakes and learnt how to adjust and live. Yes, Lily always forgave William for everything, but not Rufus. Its because Rufus's betrayals were always harder for her.. because she loved him more than anyone else, and he disappointed her the most. but even then they worked out, somehow, they managed to stay together. Their marriage didn't end in a divorce, it was annulled because of Bart Bass, and because of the shitty writing and Dan and Serena. That's it.
