That is true, I'm always happy to see people opening their doors and hearts to strays, especially when strays need extra attention and care like a pregnant dog/cat and their offspring would require. Though if you take in a pregnant dog/cat and you're unsure on how to handle birth + puppies/kittens when they're born, or if you don't have the resources... my advice would ALWAYS be contact a rescue organization, they can either take over OR if you're willing to foster they can definitely set you up with the resources and knowledge required to take on the challenge of dealing with pregnant dogs/cats and their offspring.

Lily has taken the mother cat in and in the previous video we can see that she has given a lot of food for the mother cat. Now she has posted a follow-up video where the litter is doing fine and all you guys can comment is, that Lily is not taking care of the cat? In nature, when a stray has kittens, from 5 kittens usually just 2 survive, because the mamma cat can't produce enough milk. Here we have 4 kittens and a relaxed mother, because she is in a safe environment with enough food to eat. Thanks Lily for taking care of so many cats with your salary and thanks for the videos too. Sadly, it's very common, and natural for one kitten in the litter to not survive. Especially if the litter is on the large side. And there is often what is called the "runt" of the litter. Where one kitten is just smaller than the rest. And maybe isn't as strong as the others, so it's not getting to the milk. Whatever the reason, and it is very sad, I'm sure Lily did everything she could to ensure their survival. And what a brilliant and devoted mother cat Keera appears to be! Such a beautiful story. 💕

Thanks for the update. So much love in that basket/bed. It is very sad that so many commenting think they are experts. You do realize that Mom was a stray and already had malnutrition when she showed up and then her kittens @ Lily's home. Takes time to fatten Mom and the kittens back up. Especially when the Mom is already under weight and trying to support her babies. I am sure she was given plenty of food to get her back on track. You can obviously see as the video progresses how Mom and her babies gain weight. I would say Mama has Manx in her, and so the trait is passed down. Her hind legs appear longer Thad her front. As to the kitten, a THOUSAND natural reasons. They were born outside. Maybe Mama didn't produce enough milk, or forgot to eat one of the placentas, or had a bit of mastitis. Or, Maybe baby had a weak heart, a latent encephalitis issue that wasn't evident yet in all actions. Some baby's simply have failure to thrive issues. Akeera is a beautiful, carrying & courageous Mum. She is only a young mum & does not have enough milk for a full litter. That is why the little ones fought so much & bit her a few times. That white kitten was on a short end of the fights, got bit starved & weakened & then gave up. Usually, young cats have smaller litter, 2-3 kittens. But on a very positive side, Akeera found a safe home for her babies, she did it courageously and cautiously, searching for a place & when she found it, checked it's safety for a few days. And now they have a human Mum who is caring & devoted. Thanks to this safe &, I must say a very beautiful home, Akeera is able to raise her kittens. It would be very hard for her to feed them & search for food, & maybe even not be able to keep them safe. I am sorry for the little one (interestingly, that kitten was the only with a long tail), but Akeera did a marvellous job saving them from the street. And she is very patient, caring, protective & intelligent. Mother-cats do give little ones a little bite or a paw-smack to tell them what's ok & what not. Beautiful Akeera & her beautiful, head-to-toe-licked angels! I think they are ready for normal milk & solids. Thank you Human Mommy for saving them & giving them home & safety! God bless you & thank you for sharing! BTW, lovely music too!

Love what you wrote. Just one little thing, that can become a big thing: don't give cats 'normal', that is cow's milk. They can get sick and die from it! They don't need milk passed a few months. Give them water! When one is rich, one can buy special milk for cats, which doesn't make them ill. But that's more like a treat, and not at all necessary.

thank you for bringing up the financial aspect. a single vet visit for a stray cat can get very expensive. when you're volunteering care for cat colonies, you're often dealing with very limited time and money, so dumping all of your resources into one vet visit to *maybe* save one high-risk kitten that will need continual care and monitoring for days or weeks is often an ineffective use of those resources that could instead be helping more cats. that's why a lot of stray cat programs focus on trap-neuter-release, because it's a much better use of limited funding and labor to get a handle on out-of-control populations, which in turn reduce spread of infectious diseases among the ferals and reduces the overall risk of kitten deaths.

I have had a similar experience with a few kitten's passing away, their deaths crushed me to my core. I then learned about a condition that is referred to as "failure to thrive". I am uncertain if this holds true but that does not make it any less devastating. Thankfully I have had more success stories than failures.
@diane92474 жыл бұрын
Yes, "failure to thrive" is a real diagnosis and common with stray or feral kittens. Sometimes, nature takes its course no matter what humans do. It's very possible that it was already too late for the kitten who died when the mother moved them to Lily's home.
@annabellevy33884 жыл бұрын
It was not that long ago that many human infants died due to what was also called "failure to thrive." It was not for lack of love or trying. I can't believe people are criticizing this woman.

Does not make it any easier. Humans are very selfish and only focus on their well being but every once in a while there is someone special. I look at it as doing God's work, the same thing my grandmother did with the stray dogs feeding them leftover cornbread. It is a force that lives within me.

The kitten could have been born with something wrong with it. A cleft palate happens a lot in humans and animals. Also the kitten could had digestive issue, stomach, intestines or once I had lost a puppy because of his liver. Never judge when you don’t have all the facts.
@abbyandsadiesmom20404 жыл бұрын
Agreed. There are any number of things that could befall a kitten. The one who passed could've been the runt of the litter; the smallest and the one who gets pushed around by the others. It happens. Human babies die every day from SIDS. Same thing with kittens. No one's fault. Mom's milk also has nutrients and enzymes required for kittens to thrive. Without that natural immunity, it's almost impossible for a kitten to survive. If the baby can't or won't nurse, their fate is all but sealed. FYI, cats are lactose intolerant (natural sugar occurring in milk) and cow and goat milk are not recommended. Here's what I found when I looked it up: "..Cow and goat milk both have a significantly higher lactose content than a mother cat's milk, so they're even more difficult for an adult cat to digest. And in cats with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or other intestinal disorders, dairy can make the existing digestive symptoms much worse.." Thank you Lily for all that you do for these wonderful babies. I know you're in another country and I'm unaware of what resources your area has. If it's possible to get kitten milk (sold in some stores), that would help kittens as the lactose is removed. If not, there are homemade recipes online, but it also depends on what is available in your area. The important thing is that you are saving the lives of these babies and giving them and their mom a chance at life. You are a blessing to these feline friends and from the bottom of our hearts, we are eternally grateful.

You can get the facts from a vet.
@aquamarina5216 Жыл бұрын
I really don't want to accuse or pale on the poor woman who clearly has good intentions of taking them but this death could have been prevented, first of, if you see that kitten doesn't want to eat, you take them to the vet to see what is wrong, second there is a way to feed and care for kittens even if something goes wrong with nursing, and battle babies can thrive as much as those who were nursed. It is just very sad to me that a heartwarming story ended like this when the sweet baby boy could still be alive and well, but things like that happened and no one can reverse time. I just hope this will be a learning experience for the future, to better react when something goes wrong. I know that we can't save all animals but we should at least try and that's why reacting when they are sick is very important. I am fostering cats for 10 years and I own them all my life, so this is how I know, if somebody wants to accuse me of not knowing what I am talking about. Again I am very grateful that the lady took in the kitty family, this is a wonderful thing and I thank her for that, just hope she will be a little bit more observant in the future.

Usually when kitten stopps eating it means that already something is wrong internally. It could have been development problem that it was born with. Simply it could have been weakest of litter. It is sad but it happens, especially with stray cats. Now mum looks like it has full breasts, full of milk. Which is nice. I am sure as you'll keep feeding her she'll put more weight on, and so will the kittens. Right now they didn't fully catch up but it is ok. Lily, I would just like to thank you from my heart for saving and taking care of the poor sweethearts. ❤️❤️ No matter what people say, you did something more than something they did - *You saved lives* . It's very hard indeed to take care of so many cute kittens and a very sweet and affectionate mother cat (apparently, the cuteness should be illegal 😂😜❤️❤️) And I really love how you worked actually HARD saving them.

What a beautiful little family! It looks like mama cat has her paws full taking care of those babies. Is it unusual for a kitten to not breast feed its mother cat? Praise to you, Lily, for caring for the animals.

My condolences for the kitten that didn't make it. You did all you could and you do so much for these cats. And during a pandemic when many vets and shelters are closed, you managed well. Remember, without your love and selflessness, possibly none of the cats would have survived or thrived. Peace and health to you and those super cute cats

So sweet of you to take a mother cat and kittens into your home.You gave them a chance at life. Sadly no matter what we do some kittens don't survive. It does appear the mother does not produce enough milk as the kittens are skinny but this will correct itself when they start eating food.

You need to feed momma cat a lot and give her lots of water so that she has enough milk for them.

Nah she can do it by herself like she used to on the streets. This a feral cat and it's survival of the fittest outside. Without this woman's help many more kittens would have died.

Mama and babies look very well and healthy; as for the loss of one of the babies, he may have sadly had underlying health problems. They are a beautiful family! :)

Great and divine effort. The cats feel safe at your house. Trust me, they can sense your kind aura, thats the reasons why Mommy cat brought her kittens to seek shelter from you. God bless you and your family.

yourstruly autumn: Mama was very careful! She spent a lot of time before deciding this would be a safe, good place for her children, before she brought them there. There's no telling how many times she had to move them before she found some place she found this Situation! Every cat has a Situation, a Situation is like a job and a home. It's where you live, andwhere you do whatever it is you do. Maybe you are Rodent Control; maybe you are a Greeter in a Veterinarian's dispensary, or maybe you are a Companion to some human. Maybe you are a Comforter in a Hospice, there to comfort the dying and to let the human caregivers know that someone is ready to go. In any case, every cat has a Situation. When you see a cat following and paying constant attention to some human, it's looking for a job --- a Situation. Not all Situations involve humans. Some cats are born into Situations involving PLACES. There are colonies of cats located in Egypt descended from cats that were there in the times of the Pharoahs, and ones that have been living in the Colosseum for more than 2,000 years. And the list goes on and on . . .
