It works for pretty much any fighter including Tekken where asia uses numpad+button names. So for example a giant swing from King would be 641236LP instead of the other notation. I personally really think SF should use numpad so a hadouken is just 236HP or whatever.

@@EpsilonKnight2numpad notation my beloved. I love turning combos into math.
@EpsilonKnight22 ай бұрын
@@amiablereaper Once you understand it then it's honestly still more universally legible than somebody saying "forward down down forward punch" for dragon punch/shoryuken. You can make it another layer dumber by saying "forward down down forward forward" when in reality the last forward in the notation is referring to the old term for medium kick, so you could also say "DP motion forward button" lol.
@Boyzby2 ай бұрын
People keep saying this, but I very much doubt a significant number of people are actually reading things from other languages instead of learning from people in their region. It just reads and sounds way more confusing.
@amiablereaper2 ай бұрын
@Boyzby This might surprise you, but fighting games are actually kinda niche. Not every game is gonna have twenty KZbinrs fighting to tell you the same information. Back when bbtag was a thing the only good combo guides were in japanese with no voiceover or subtitles. If not for notation I would have been totally lost. Similarly, the only person making Battle for the Grid guides, parkerlad88, spoke English, so number notation likely made the videos more comprehensible to the Sentai crowd as well.

18:00 omg finally someone acknowledges the fact that grabs are integral in strive I keep hearing people say strike throw is weak in strive because throws aren't worth much but like almost every character has a tick throw set up and several characters have spots in their pressure where they can add a throw in to mix you and you even have characters like baiken who gain a lot of value off a throw whether that's through tether or mad oki
@daikoooo2 ай бұрын
Strike throw has a pretty shit risk/reward ratio and most characters usually have better options to mix. If you succeed the damage is pretty low and if you fail you might lose half your hp and your opponent get to run his shit (this is by far the worst part). You'd have to spend meter to make it worth or to make it safe and that kinda sucks in comparison to other options. There is a reason Ky players would rather spend that meter on instant overhead rc's. The only character who truly makes it work is Sol, because of insane pressure due to meterless plus frames that make you explode if you retaliate in any way. Any other character is better off running their character specific offense (high/low, crossups or even chipping to death). That doesn't mean that throw is shit in general though, its still a good tool to throw opponents off and create a higher mental stack. Its just not something that is used a lot for a good reason.

23:13 this is definitely obvious to non beginner players but the jab jab here is leading into a really helpful part of a gameplan. Instead of jab jab though going for a better reset hit then cancelling/using mix options between crossup, low, overhead and throw after resetting obviously leads to restarting the combo mitigating the scaling from the pre reset hits. Having her think about essentially dropping a combo at a advantageous time to go into that mix is a great way to exchange a guaranteed combo damage for a mix leading to a fresh combo getting more damage out of it than just finishing the standard combo. I feel like having her consider stuff like this while it might be difficult to get used to intentionally stopping a canned combo would be really helpful and once you get the feel of it and open up options for bigger comeback damage in exchange for risking losing her turn. It's insane how many people especially below celestial will fall for the reset into mix especially with a character like Elphelt and just how much more damage you can get out of just one small alteration.

I used to wonder why games used num pad notations too when I first learned Soul Calibur 2 back in the day but it instantly made sense. Num Pad notation is actually to keep things from being even more confusing and to keep notations universal for different languages. It also keeps directional inputs separate from button inputs its really that simple. Explaining in notations before in the forums would look like, QCF C or or QCB B or FC C, HCF B, and seeing 236C , 214B 2C and 63214B, It might be confusing at first but once you learn it its just as recognizable as anything else. I learned a lot combos from Japanese videos back when Guilty Gear X wasn't popular here because of the notations and I also imported SC2 so I could get it early because it wasnt sold in the states at the same time.
