The ‘Peter is mistaken for a tran person’ set-up could actually play out in a more sensical (& maybe even halfway funny) way if instead of being mistaken for a trans woman he’s mistaken for Chaz Bono (since they’re both plus size white guys with brown hair). Peter could then mistakenly assume that the reason he’s suddenly being treated better by everyone is because of ‘trans privilege’ until the actual Chaz Bono shows up & helps him understand that he wasn’t being treated better for being perceived as trans but for being perceived as a nepo baby. “I don’t have privilege because I’m trans, Peter. "The idea that Quagmire, the noted serial rapist, is the one on our side in this episode..." that's actually a weirdly common thing in the later seasons of Family Guy, Quagmire is consistently shown as the voice-of-reason/comedic straight-man to the other characters' antics, then a scene later, they're making jokes about him being a human trafficker, and the show just never addresses this massive tonal disconnect.
@Crystal_Dylan5 ай бұрын
In one episode he’s the moral compass and straight man who sees through everything wrong with the situation. The next episode will then be some shit like “Quagmire waits until Meg turns 18 to start dating her.” Or will have a cutaway gag about him SAing Marge Simpson and shooting the rest of the family. @AstonWildsteel5 ай бұрын
@@LittleKittiesBigWorld I second that. I've watched a lot of Family Guy, The Simpsons and South Park as a teenager and young adult and, in retrospect, I noticed that when South Park or The Simpsons makes a referential joke, they go the extra mile to make the joke work even without knowing the reference. As an example, there's a scene in Simpsons where Chalmers and Skinner were doing a skit that is a reference to Abbott and Costello. At that point in time I have never heard of them and it would take years before I would do. But the Simpsons transforms the joke in a way that the joke lands even if you didn't know the reference, and once I knew the reference and saw the scene again, I found it extra funny. Family Guy has done a similar joke referencing Abbott and Costello, but since it relied on the audience knowing the duo, I couldn't get out more than a dry "heh". They didn't transform it enough to make the joke their own. It can only be found funny by siphoning the works of others, instead of using their comedic sources as a foundation to make a gag that can stand on its own legs.

Many Jews became conversos in Italy and Iberia, and migrated to Cuba, Florida, and southeast Brazil, and thus there is a greater chance of acceptance. The joke being that boy bands with more and more members are more popular and that Rodger struggled to get the 11 other boys, gave up and added Victor. At the end of the episode the band goes belly-up when a boyband with 13 members goes big instead of them There's also another moment in the song where another member says "I'm B11 and I'm in love with B7" which plays with the idea that A) B11 doesn't know victor is a female, and he is Gay or B) B11 and everyone in the band know that Victor is actually a girl and B11 is straight, but it makes all the listeners who believe victor is a man believe B11 is gay. It got a chuckle out of me Honestly I think it's relatively innocuous - American Dad is better written (in my opinion) and generally doesn't make Trans people punchlines A La Brian vomiting for minutes straight, but plays around with gender concepts (Rodger being Fluid and switching gender with Their persona, The Steve Roller Derby episode) but I'm not confident enough on the topic to say it was or wasn't a dig at Transmasc men. I wonder if you will also do videos on web shows with trans characters. The adult animated web series Helluva Boss has a minor trans character named Sallie May, the sister of Millie, one of the show’s main characters. Since she’s a minor character, her identity isn’t really focused on, but it’s made clear she’s a trans woman because her horns have thick stripes (a trait associated with male imps in the show) and she has a trans voice actress. She later returned in a short episode where she and Millie have a fun night on the town. There was a slight controversy about sexy merch of Sallie May that depicted her with a bulge, but her voice actress specifically requested that because trans women don’t tuck all the time, and most of the characters get sexy merch anyways. It’s also been confirmed that she will return in future episodes. I don’t know if you’ll like the show itself, since it’s pretty contentious online, with criticisms ranging from “oh it’s cringe” “oh they cuss too much” “oh the creator did XYZ 10 years ago” but I think you’ll like Sallie May. It seems that her voice actress is heavily involved with decisions involving the character which is a good sign.

Should be noted a big issue with Family's Guy writing is they clearly get their late season ideas for comedy from the internet, when they're not literally ripping off videos they see on social media (Even just playing them with Peter edited in or voicing over them) and as such, they end up recycling a lot of the sense of humor from the edgy part of the internet without much thought on how it'd actually fit into the show.

I distinctly remember the episode of Peter being mistaken for a trans woman as the only episode of Family Guy I've watched. I think I was like 12 and my family was staying at a hotel so we were just watching whatever on cable and this episode came on. It was one of my first introductions to the concept of being transgender. I don't think I was fully paying attention because I only ever remembered two things from that episode. I remembered the scene of Peter being mistaken for being trans (although I now realize that I didn't remember it correctly. Until now I thought that Peter went into the women's bathroom and went along with the trans thing because he didn't want to be seen as a creepy man spying on women) and the speech that Ida gave about being trans. Now after hearing about the episode in it's entirety, I'm glad I remembered so little of it.
