Just a heads up, in your sponsor section the video you play shows someone downloading a virus that steals their data and locks their disk. A VPN would not protect you from this. All it does is obscure your connection from your ISP. It's up to the user to have safe Internet habits to prevent other issues.

The ‘Peter is mistaken for a tran person’ set-up could actually play out in a more sensical (& maybe even halfway funny) way if instead of being mistaken for a trans woman he’s mistaken for Chaz Bono (since they’re both plus size white guys with brown hair). Peter could then mistakenly assume that the reason he’s suddenly being treated better by everyone is because of ‘trans privilege’ until the actual Chaz Bono shows up & helps him understand that he wasn’t being treated better for being perceived as trans but for being perceived as a nepo baby. “I don’t have privilege because I’m trans, Peter. I have privilege because my mom is CHER!”

"The idea that Quagmire, the noted serial rapist, is the one on our side in this episode..." that's actually a weirdly common thing in the later seasons of Family Guy, Quagmire is consistently shown as the voice-of-reason/comedic straight-man to the other characters' antics, then a scene later, they're making jokes about him being a human trafficker, and the show just never addresses this massive tonal disconnect.
@Crystal_Dylan

In one episode he’s the moral compass and straight man who sees through everything wrong with the situation. The next episode will then be some shit like “Quagmire waits until Meg turns 18 to start dating her.” Or will have a cutaway gag about him SAing Marge Simpson and shooting the rest of the family. Like why does Family Guy even try being deep or topical anymore all the main cast at this point are felons and criminals or a strawman to mock and dehumanize

I believe it's due to flanderization. Quagmire originally was just a massive horn dog who slept with many women. They kept exaggerating this depiction of him all the way to him becoming a massive rapist. So now they end up with this bizarre character that is meant to be "The normal guy" while also being a fucking rapist.

Seth macfarlane has been out of the writing staff since season 12. Even before then, he’s a creator not a writer, every season after 1 was written by various people. As for his role, he does oversee the writing staff, but I can’t imagine he really does. The problem is not him, the problem is that the show is a product of it’s time and so is everything else that ever existed.

People in my family wouldn't treat me seriously until I got top surgery, and I even got told to my face "well I thought you would change your mind at some point, but now I can't ignore it anymore" Cis people need to be proven that im willing to spend a lot of money and go through surgery before they start to think "yeah, the way you feel is valid"

I'm not nearly brave enough to socially transition withoit hormones cos I have ptsd from †·abuses & am too girly to dare present as socially·masc. The thought of being hurt by a large group of scary people makes my jaw chatter in fear. Dumb Family members, & an utter lack of logic+compassion in society is ruining many people's lives. Again? I think that the joke was probably intended as a dig against Boston because it has a stereotype of being anti-LBGTQ+ but like... it doesn't really work because it requires that you're *already* aware of the homphobic Bostonian stereotype to land properly. Bottom line, it's bad on a number of levels.

@AstonWildsteel
@AstonWildsteel 5 ай бұрын
@@LittleKittiesBigWorld I second that. I've watched a lot of Family Guy, The Simpsons and South Park as a teenager and young adult and, in retrospect, I noticed that when South Park or The Simpsons makes a referential joke, they go the extra mile to make the joke work even without knowing the reference. As an example, there's a scene in Simpsons where Chalmers and Skinner were doing a skit that is a reference to Abbott and Costello. At that point in time I have never heard of them and it would take years before I would do. But the Simpsons transforms the joke in a way that the joke lands even if you didn't know the reference, and once I knew the reference and saw the scene again, I found it extra funny. Family Guy has done a similar joke referencing Abbott and Costello, but since it relied on the audience knowing the duo, I couldn't get out more than a dry "heh". They didn't transform it enough to make the joke their own. It can only be found funny by siphoning the works of others, instead of using their comedic sources as a foundation to make a gag that can stand on its own legs.

Many Jews became conversos in Italy and Iberia, and migrated to Cuba, Florida, and southeast Brazil, and thus there is a greater chance of acceptance. Obviously in Iberia, Italy, and Greater New York, there is a LOT of heteronormative supremacy due to the historical presence of religion (even if it significantly declined after clerical fascism and the Beat Generation), and plenty of anti-Semitism for the same reasons.

7:49 The American Dad episode with B12 has a band member, Victor, and it’s made unclear whether they’re a cis tomboy, a trans man, or something else entirely. The character has lips and eyelashes associated with female Family Guy characters, but also a masc name and short hair. During the B12 song, they say "I've got the penis of a man" and the screen flashes the word "Girl." It could have been that this was making fun of trans men, but since the character is so minor and doesn’t appear again, it’s never really touched on

my read of it was that B12 was so rushed to be put together by Rodger, Victor is a cis girl who is pretending to be a boy to fit into the group. The joke being that boy bands with more and more members are more popular and that Rodger struggled to get the 11 other boys, gave up and added Victor. At the end of the episode the band goes belly-up when a boyband with 13 members goes big instead of them There's also another moment in the song where another member says "I'm B11 and I'm in love with B7" which plays with the idea that A) B11 doesn't know victor is a female, and he is Gay or B) B11 and everyone in the band know that Victor is actually a girl and B11 is straight, but it makes all the listeners who believe victor is a man believe B11 is gay. It got a chuckle out of me Honestly I think it's relatively innocuous - American Dad is better written (in my opinion) and generally doesn't make Trans people punchlines A La Brian vomiting for minutes straight, but plays around with gender concepts (Rodger being Fluid and switching gender with Their persona, The Steve Roller Derby episode) but I'm not confident enough on the topic to say it was or wasn't a dig at Transmasc men. Cheers

I wonder if you will also do videos on web shows with trans characters. The adult animated web series Helluva Boss has a minor trans character named Sallie May, the sister of Millie, one of the show’s main characters. Since she’s a minor character, her identity isn’t really focused on, but it’s made clear she’s a trans woman because her horns have thick stripes (a trait associated with male imps in the show) and she has a trans voice actress. She later returned in a short episode where she and Millie have a fun night on the town. There was a slight controversy about sexy merch of Sallie May that depicted her with a bulge, but her voice actress specifically requested that because trans women don’t tuck all the time, and most of the characters get sexy merch anyways. It’s also been confirmed that she will return in future episodes. I don’t know if you’ll like the show itself, since it’s pretty contentious online, with criticisms ranging from “oh it’s cringe” “oh they cuss too much” “oh the creator did XYZ 10 years ago” but I think you’ll like Sallie May. It seems that her voice actress is heavily involved with decisions involving the character which is a good sign.

Sallie May is a good character. She just needs more episodes to build her up.

I didnt know about the merch thing, its one of those moments where things could and should have been handled in advance, i mean come on its helluva boss, people make controversies out of every frame, they should have advertised the Sally merch as being done un collab with her actress immediatly

Heard but Helluva Boss is daddy issues the show. I can't get into it, it's way too obvious that the creator has some deep personal issues they can't stop writing into their otherwise shallow characters. The most appealing thing about them is their designs, which aren't exceptional and often busy anyway.
@khalakrean6890
@khalakrean6890 5 ай бұрын
@@Praecosmilei dont understand why people keep saying that, difficult relationships with parents is the most common trope in history and no other creator gets accused of writing it because they have daddy issues they project on characters, all of the helluva boss characters have very diffrent reactions to their trauma and their struggles are their varied, you can argue that its not portayed well obviously but saying its all the same is weird

@@Praecosmile It's okay if it's not your cup of tea, but anyone calling it the 'daddy issues show' is literally just being sexist and probably hates queer people.

Fun fact, i dont know what episode or season this flash back was, but it was one of the eariler ones, where peter says "i remember when i became a man" and then it cuts back to peter in a hostipal bed, and the doctor tells peter to "take a look" and he looks under hia hostipal gown and says "i think im going to name him, peter" which presumes peter is transgender and that he got bottom surgery

Didn't we already get multiple episodes of Peter becoming feminine that didn't go out of their way to go after the trans community?

The bathroom thing in the first episode is so confusing too because like... the logic doesn't make sense. If they're assuming he's trans because he used the trans bathroom it begs the question of.... why is there a trans bathroom there at all if it has never been used??

Should be noted a big issue with Family's Guy writing is they clearly get their late season ideas for comedy from the internet, when they're not literally ripping off videos they see on social media (Even just playing them with Peter edited in or voicing over them) and as such, they end up recycling a lot of the sense of humor from the edgy part of the internet without much thought on how it'd actually fit into the show.

Glad this is titled as transphobia, not a transgender episode analysis. The creators of familyguy may think it isn't transphobia, but it's also not clear that they'd care.

"I dont think the family guy writing team knows what trans men are," while I agree a LOT of people seem to say Trans to mean trans women, this is actually not true! In fact, there's been a cutaway gag of Peter Griffin getting a phalloplasty, and Dr Hartman asking what name he'll go by. Peter then lifts up the blankt to look at his new penis, and says "Peter." I love bringing this up, usually just to have a laugh about it with my fellow trans men/masc friends, calling Peter a "bisexual trans icon," lol.

One thing I wanna point out!!! The Family Guy writers do apparently know what trans men are, as an episode of Stewie meeting a future version of himself exists and, in the same episode, it’s revealed that Meg transitioned into a man. But it seems like the writers believe that trans women are easier/“funnier” to make fun of which is :/ Amazing video btw! :D

I distinctly remember the episode of Peter being mistaken for a trans woman as the only episode of Family Guy I've watched. I think I was like 12 and my family was staying at a hotel so we were just watching whatever on cable and this episode came on. It was one of my first introductions to the concept of being transgender. I don't think I was fully paying attention because I only ever remembered two things from that episode. I remembered the scene of Peter being mistaken for being trans (although I now realize that I didn't remember it correctly. Until now I thought that Peter went into the women's bathroom and went along with the trans thing because he didn't want to be seen as a creepy man spying on women) and the speech that Ida gave about being trans. Now after hearing about the episode in it's entirety, I'm glad I remembered so little of it.
