Something I keep thinking about is the way Mapleshade killed Frecklewish. She didn't kill her with her own "hands." She let an adder do it for her. Why? I have a slight suspicion that Mapleshade KNEW Frecklewish did what she did because she was grieving and was blinded by anger (proof of this is obviously in the way she talks to Maple and especially when she clawed her face) like she was! She lost her kits, her mate and had most importantly, been betrayed by those she thought she could count on similarly to Frecklewish. Frecklewish thought she could trust Mapleshade and counted on her but when she found out the truth she snapped because of how lost and betrayed she felt, she was lied to by the same cat she believed was bearing and had given birth her dead brother's kits. I think Mapleshade finally understood what Frecklewish was feeling when she was betrayed herself. I do believe she felt SOME amount of pity towards her. She, like Frecklewish, was also blinded by anger and grief which is why she still killed her, HOWEVER, I feel like she made the unconscious decision not to kill her herself because she didn't see it right to do so after she experienced that feeling of betrayal as well. She now understood how Frecklewish was feeling and deep down she knew it was wrong to kill her in the first place so she got an adder to kill her so that she wouldn't have to deal with that feeling of regret afterwards. Selfish but somehow understandable considering all the emotions she was already feeling, she didn't want to add on to that. Oof that was long, if you read all of this, you're a real one lol. This is just my view, as well as headcanon, on what might've happened deep inside Mapleshade's mind when she decided to kill Frecklewish :p

Many people speculate that it’s was the “oh she didn’t save Mapleshade kits when they were drowning so she broke the code”which was the one of saving kits in danger no matter what clan they are, but I feel like people forget the fact that 1. She can’t swim, she ThunderClan they can’t swim the only that can is RiverClan, 2. She was still facing trauma from her brother Birchface death he literally drowned along with his apprentice Flowerpaw, 3. It’s was a flooding river and combine with the first two points Frecklewish would have no luck saving the kits from drowning but instead her just dying along with them 4. She didn’t witnessed the kits deaths, sure she saw Mapleshade and the kits in the river trying to cross to RC, but she left when she saw the RC patrol and thought they would be okay, this is confirmed via Nettlepaw telling Mapleshade that Frecklewish did went to check on them but then came back to camp saying that the kits were okay plus why would he ask if the kits were in RC if he knew they were dead, easy he didn’t know the kits died, also Frecklewish literally just was in shock when she knew the kits died in the snakerock scene, so yea for me Frecklewish is there in the Dark forest FOR NO F REASON

I got chills in the beginning with Freckle holding that dead snake in her mouth. It's a chilling & yet yet fitting detail that was included! I wish Freckle was realized more as a grieving individual instead of this heartless monster that the warrior cat fans make her out to be. This was so well done! And your art style is so beautiful! I love how in the last scene with Mapleshade and Frecklewish both crying and with their mouths agape, potentially yelling at eachother, it could be interpreted that they're screaming the lyrics, "She can't be dead!" This more specifically could relate to the idea that Frecklewish not only didn't want the kits to die, but she spent so much time loving them, being there for them, and caring for them.

I love how people justify Maple’s actions with her grieve, but by that logic also making Freckles actions justified, so creating a paradox, when the truth is Maple is just the worst and everyone (but her and Oakstar) deserves better in that book.

In pinestar’s book he had to swim. Multiple thunderclan cats have been shown to swim. From the moment of birth her and Oakstar planned to indoctrinate those children and complete strip them of their children. She condemned them for something they were not guilty of. She was the first to suggest exile as their punishment and forced Oakstar to do so. Find some proof of that first claim then come back and argue.

The only reason Frecklewish and Squilf are becoming popular to the mainstream readers is because large KZbinrs are providing text based evidence from books people haven't read in years yet still try and debate about. If Freckle hadn't gone to hell and had videos made on her about why she should go Starclan, I can guarantee she'd be hated. Same with Squilf minus the hell part. I'm glad the KZbinrs are making them more loved but I wish this community had less of a hive mentality honestly. Maybe nuanced characters wouldn't be so hated if that were the case.

freckle deserves starclan tbh. Sure, she snapped, but it was because she was broken about her brothers death, who was killed by Appledusk. She believed that mapleShade had the kits of her brother, that her kin would live on, but when she found out it was appledusk kits, that basically made her realize her kins murderer was the kits father, which honestly would suck. It was clear she felt bad, she was probably traumatized by Her brothers death, that she was frozen in shock. Sure, she made some mistakes but she doesn’t deserve the dark forest. She was broken and blinded. But she didn’t murder and kill cats.

@@catweedcocaineProbably swim pretty well when the river isn’t flooded. We need to remember that Mapleshade herself struggled in that river. If she couldn’t save her kits, especially when she hooks onto Patchkit and the water literally forces him out of her grasp, Frecklewish stood no chance against that river either. RiverClan cats know the water better than any other clan, she might be a fairly decent swimmer but I don’t think she’s an expert like the RiverClan cats who knew what to do when Mapleshade got caught in the flood. And I wouldn’t say watch drown? I don’t think she could see anything with how small their bodies were. Also because this was some random storm that happened, and I think we all know how hard it is to see when it’s storming outside. (And do not bring up the fact that she saw Larchkit scream for help when he caught onto a nearby branch, in the original text there was nothing supporting the idea of Frecklewish even being in that exact spot where he called to, it’s another excuse the editors claim is true when I doubt it is) I’m not defending the fact that she screamed children, as the kits get more empathy, but I don’t think she’ll be able to save them in a flash flood? It sounds incredibly stupid And I’m pretty sure Rainflower deserves an actual spot in the DF more than Freckle, as unlike Freckle who felt remorseful for the kit’s deaths as she never meant for them to die, Rainflower openly expresses how much she hates Crookedkit and thinks he’s ugly and proves that by being the one who wanted a name change and decided to leave the nursery when Oakkit had his apprentice name, when Crookedkit was still in the nursery. She was his *mother* and because he was ugly, she then choose to avoid him throughout his life. That is, if breaking one rule is hell worthy. Otherwise I think she’s a pretty responsible cat among RC, just not among her own kits. If Crookedkit were still Stormkit, he’d obviously be her favorite, as she didn’t show much love for Oakheart. Another thing to point out; it’s never canonically claimed she knew how to swim either? But judging by her clan blood, it’s quite obvious she’s not as much of a powerful swimmer.

Russetfur really DID WATCH a kit in pain and suffering and went to StarClan. So the reasonings are very flawed either way. Plus, if she's there then Oakstar, and Ravenwing should be too. Shes the least deserving of it.

It may just be because mapleshade is one of my, if not my favorite characters in the whole series, but i personally dislike freckelwish. I'm not saying she deserved to die and go to the DF, but she was still one of the reasons why the kits died. Everyone pinning the deaths on maple dont realis that she just couldnt have known that the river would be that dangerous on that specific day, no one could, but maple had no choice, you know? They both acted out of grief and got the same result, i guess, so my conclusion here on why freckel may have went to the DF was because SC hates grieving she-cats. Good job on reading my rambling

Since I don't see any other comments like this let me be the first: Frecklewish sucks. She took it out on the kits that she technically just assumed were her brothers (yes Mapleshade didn't say otherwise but still, Frecklewish just latched on to the only pregnant cat in Thunderclan hoping they'd be her brother's kits, knowing at the start that it's unlikely.) That shit be pathetic lol. Calling the kits "creatures" and calling for the banishment of them too, essentially sending them to their deaths. She seemed surprised and a little regretful, but not too particularly distressed when learning literal children are dead because of her screeching for their banishment, when the code at that time already states that a kit is a kit and should be cared for and protected by any clan it finds itself in. To sum it all up, Frecklewish deserves a minute in the Dark Forest to atone lol
