I don't even watch Stranger Things but I have clear memories of this song being on the radio seemingly every hour on the hour that summer of 1984. I was 8 going on 9 years old and the target audience for it. Oddly, I never saw the movie until I was older and got tired of the song quick. I love the rather cheesy musical sequence in Stranger Things this song pops up in and how a younger audience is discovering it. It was probably when "peak '80s" was achieved.

I'm with you brother. When I was explaining the meaning of the movie to my kids I started crying. The Nothing is adulthood trying to wipe out childhood. Imaginations from the Otherside by Blind Guardian is about the same thing. Adulthood creeps in trying to wipe out our childhood, making us forget the fairy tales, the adventures of Tom Sawyer, Robinson Crusoe, Bilbo and Frodo, King Arthur. When my eldest 2 were little we went to see Never Ending Story. That evening my son got upset with his big sister for saying the mashed potatoes looked like the clouds from the movie 😂😂😂. While driving my youngest to work this morning, he played the song because he likes it, the Never Ending Story movie & Stranger Things. We miss my middle child. He passed away earlier this month. The song brought the memory of the mashed potatoes to mind.
