Thank you Dan, I was lucky enough to get a group today at my LFS. This video provided a lot of useful information. Mine went straight into a outdoor fish tub for the rest of summer.

the best video i have seen on this species! thanks. Growing up in the DR we called them "Dajao"(the J is pronounce like the H in hat) which doesn't sound Spanish so i think it's a more Haitian creole name. The Haitian species is found in the taxonomy as Limia nigrofasciata and in the south western provinces of the DR you will find what I think is a hybrid of the two; the best specimens I ever seen were from what I thought hard alkaline fresh water but I never tested, I am hoping to change that in my next trip in January. Limias are very common in Lake Enrriquillo, 40 mt below sea level and very salty.

They really are! I'm enjoying them and the nigrofasciatia that both arrived today. Great eaters, and very social fish.

I agree about the personality...they are outgoing without being too aggressive.

What plants would you recommend for these guys?
@jaythefishman415 жыл бұрын
Here in South Florida, they go by "Blue Limia." Several breeders here. Just got 10 specimens at our local fish society auction. They do have lots of "glitter," similar to the "glitter" on jewel cichlids.

Nice !! Brine feeding looks really cool. I have 6 of these in 120 liter. They are doing great but no fry for 3-4 months ive had them. I think the problem is that I had to move a pack of 8 young green swordtails in with them (smal males were getting punked to the point I had to), and i think they snack on them like they do their own babies. I pottet some plants in some old coffee cups i found and added a slate of skiffer on some rocks the fry can hide under and between. Hope this helps. Do the seek the bottom or top when they are born? There are no floating plants in this aquarium. I am running out of space for aquariums and i only have 9 :) Greatings from Denmark
@DansFish5 жыл бұрын
Hello Bouranel, I almost always find the fry in the floating plants. A big hunk of water sprite or the like up top may do the trick for you.

I have floating horn leaf, I will put some in and branch to keep in the corner and put in a smaller cirkulation filter. Thanks and keep up the good videos

I bet they would LOVE the temps and water in Singapore. What a great idea to do them outside...plenty of algae for all that way.

Definitely lots of algae! 😃

How do they do in brackish water?
@markvonwisco73693 жыл бұрын
They can live in full salt water. They'll have to be transitioned over time if the fish are currently in fresh water.

i got my hand on some limia perugiae. I keep a lot of subtropical fish in unheated tanks. Do you know Dan if they are OK in lower temperature ? I also bought limia vittata, and i searched and found that even 18 (20) degrees for vittata is OK. Is it the same with Perugiae ? I will keep them now on a higher temperature, but like to get lower if possible.
@DansFish4 жыл бұрын
The lake perugiae come from is fairly warm. I had good luck keeping mine down to 75 degrees and up to 82 degrees. I don't know if they would do well much cooler than that.
