When we look left to right (or any direction) it's not smooth, our eyes use "freeze frames" to create what looks like an almost fluid movement and scene. Pretty sure liminal spaces are something like the frozen images our brain uses to create our reality. We're not meant to or supposed to look at them too long. Asmr might be a related or similar experience.
