while I love Nate's version of this song, and I was super hype to see him get it used as the actual dubbed OP, it feels more like an anime opening. The reason I absolutely adore this version is because it feels like more than that. I've been listening to this a lot recently as a personal anthem. This was actually what I was listening to when I got the news of Toriyama's passing. Rest in peace to him... Dragon Ball had and continues to have such a positive impact on my life. Goku was actually my childhood hero, and it was because of Dragon Ball that I started martial arts training, because I wanted to be able to protect the people I cared about. It also had the added bonus of improving my physical and mental health. Which certainly set me down a better path in life. Due to life circumstances, I actually had to put a pause on my training for several years. But today, I actually started back up on my training again... which makes Toriyama's passing hurt even more. Considering I might not even be here right now if he hadn't created the series. Or at the very least, my life would have been significantly worse.

Depends. If a mechanical license was requested and approved for the cover to be sold in Japan, they'd at the very least have documents with his name on it, but depending on how they handle license approval (I'm not up on Japanese copyright law) it may have just been some fairly low level legal department worker who handles license approval who actually read and approved it, or a REALLY bored filing clerk putting away stacks of documents from a licensing service to be kept on file. Not anyone who'd be in any sort of position to say "hey hire this guy" Licensing is a tricksy hobbitses

Jonathan Young - you are to Dragonball Super what Tee Lopes is to Sonic Mania. This cover is a labour of love for the franchise & this is why the fans should definitely highlighted in this case because they are passionate about pouring love into the series they love to bring the best out of it. I prefer Johnathan's vocals/instrumentals, but I like the non-literal translation of the official, song just flows better imo, doesn't sound like it went through a layer of translation since it was written for the english dub. If Johnathan did a cover of Nate's lyrics, it'd be the perfect OP for this arc, hands down. I'm a fan of both, in the end, but I gravitate towards the english dub more just cause it sounds better to my english-speaking ears.
