Limit switches are often found in industry to help control machines and industrial processes. Their uses are unlimited in many large machines and industrial control applications. Recently I used a couple of limit switches when making the remote control garage door locks in this video- • Remote control garage ...
Limit switches normally contain two sets of contacts, two which are normally open (NO) and two which are normally closed (NC), this means they can be used for many applications and can easily be added to most control circuits, you can even wires these up to your Burglar alarm.

Just a quick example NC would stop a machine door from over travel and the NO contacts would then start the machine for what it was designed for when the switch operates hope that makes sense

Yes, I am sure a limit switch could be used for that purpose. On the site where I subcontract they are often used to control the movement of equipment moved pneumatic cylinders etc.

Thank you for the clarification, I bought goods from Germany for a telemecanique company to Iraq, and they gave me some of these, and I don't know how to use them, and when I watched the video, I knew how to work, but for what purpose are they used?

They are used for lots of different reasons. You can use them to start or stop machines when the switch is open/closed. I used two when I made some remote control garage door locks, so that the garage door could only be operated electronically when both of the linear actuators were fully retracted- kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGPMeHagoLKUq8k&t

I am not that educated about electronics. In one of your videos you mention that the linear actuator had limit switches when fully extended and fully retracted. What is the purpose of the external limit switch?
@ultimatehandyman
@ultimatehandyman 9 жыл бұрын
The limit switches on the linear actuator are set so that the actuator stops at the correct point. The actuators are made up of a motor and a ball screw, there is then a "nut" that runs up and down the ball screw when it is turned in either direction by the motor. The limit switches stop the "nut" at the end of it's travel, if the limit switches were not there the "nut" would either fall off one end or jam up at the other end. Because these limit switches are integral to the linear actuator they cannot be used for anything else, they simply limit the travel of the linear actuator. Limit switches like the one in this video are used for other circuits, such as in this example- kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGPMeHagoLKUq8k The limit switches are used to energise the solid state relay, which in turn switches on the garage door opener when both linear actuators are fully retracted. I hope this helps ;-)

***** Thank you so much for your quick response. Since I do not have and automatic garage door opener, could I eliminate the external limit switches and the solid state relay? I am looking to secure my roll up doors. You have made a great way to protect your garage door. Nice work!

fnarite You are welcome. Yes, the limit switches and SSR are not required if you don't have an automatic opener ;-) Thanks for the comments
