Reviewing a Gretsch G5420t through a Vox Ac 15C1 & Analog Alien Rumble Seat Pedal.

Good video, but for clarification: Fender does not own Gretsch. The Gretsch family still very much has ownership of the brand. Fender has been onboard since Jan 1, 2003 taking care of licensing and manufacturing. And they have done a good job keeping the brand alive, as well as improving the reputation over the guitars produced during the 1990s. But Fender does not own the Gretsch brand.

Gorgeous 5420! I have the orange version, also with humpblock inlays. The only thing that seems off is that the F holes should have white binding like the sides.

I thought it all sounded familiar. 5120, Rumble Seat, Joe Walsh, & an AC 10 here. Got rid of my 6118 as it goofed right form the factory. Lesson one? Play first & don't buy off EBay.

Thank you! The Rumble Seat and the Joe Walsh Double Classic Compressor pedals are always on my pedalboard. I met you and your brother at a Nashville NAMMM show in 2016 or 2017. I hope you keep making more pedals. I know it’s not an easy business but you have something special. The way you theme your pedals and of course the quality components you use. I’d buy anything you release.

Hey there, I have the same guitar but in white. I agree with your comments. I have changed the bridge to a Tru-Arc and the pickups I replaced with T.V Jones - Brian Setzer model (I really wasn't keen on the Black-Tops). I will say that the U.S.A bigsby that I have on a Tele feels a lot smoother and holds tune better. In summary these guitars are good value and can be great with a few mods. Not everyone can afford a 6120 or Falcon so is a great place to start. The Gretsch bug is infectious ... ;)

Great color. I have a FSR limited edition surf green with gold and they say HS Filtertrons. Electromatic jet with a G tail piece.

Thats a great color. It reminds me of a 57 Chevy or a 1950’s Ford. Surf Green pairs perfect with a Gretsch if you’re asking me. Thanks Jeremy!

Charlotte the Harlot It will be a hard find. They only made 24 in this color for a store here in the USA. In the last 4 years I’ve only seen one for sale for $1000.00 on Reverb. They do make a Electromatic Jet in this color you can find. I hope Gretsch does make a bigger release of this color on their 5420’s. It’s like a 57 Chevy color which most of the Rockabilly Gretsch fans I’m sure love.

Thank you for your service! Yes sir. The Gretsch 5120 or the more recent 5420T I would recommend for a beginner. They are easy to play and sound great acoustic. If your learning. Start off learning the open chords. It will be tough but over time your hand will get stronger. Start with G, A and D open chords. You can play a million songs with only three chords. Especially those chords. Try and practice with a metronome as well. The time is important.

Hello Davide, In all honesty, they are different guitars. It's always about personal opinion. I would say that I would be more prone to play blues and classic rock on the Casino. The feel of it feels right for that. Where the Gretsch, I tend to play more surf rock and strumming. The Gretsch does sound amazing with Rock N Roll leads and riffs. Like if you had to play rhythm and lead, the Gretsch would be perfect. It's got that fuller sound. Really it's all a matter of personal feel and preference. I would recommend to anyone to try playing one first to see how it feels to you.

david mchone People either love it our hate it David. Gretsch makes electromotics in this color but not 5420’s. This was a run of 24. I’m sure they will at some point. I love this color because it reminds me of a 57 Chevy.

So are the 2015 models I love the hump block inlays hate the thumbnails,kind of don't look cool on a rosewood fretboard but they look right on an ebony fretboard.

The necks are thicker than on the 5120 series and the 6120 Japan models, I upgraded my 5420's with USA Bigsby B6V trems and roller bridges, better than the standard B6 and Tunamatic. The standard B6 has too few screws and the top ones are in the wrong place to get best advantage over the string pull. Also the B6C V type looks better I think!

Hi Ed - I have a 5420 and want to change the bigsby to the Bigsby B6V too. Does it require any extra modding or drilling? Basically can I do it myself easily? :)

@@hotdogsoda4717 you don't have to do it, leave the guitar as it is. These mods will only cost you money, but you will not see hear any difference on sound. And if there is any it will be subtle. Its more of a cosmetic upgrade I'll say.

I've owned several of the Japanese Gretch and while they're beautiful to look at, I feel they're over rated. The Korean 5120's are a more modern design, superbly built, and much easier on the bank account.
